"Tausendundeine Nacht"

A Persian sultan, enraged by his unfaithful wife, murders a young woman every morning. A clever princess aims to end this terror through storytelling. This frame story from "One Thousand and One Nights" inspired Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade." A solo violin portrays the princess, while the orchestra depicts her stories of storms, caravans, feasts, and flying carpets.

Beethoven's Symphony No. 2, written as his deafness began, is surprisingly playful and full of contrast. Mozart's Symphony No. 1, composed at the age of eight, reveals a composer brimming with energy, imagination, and original ideas.

For the 15th time, the Gewandhaus Orchestra invites you to two summer evenings in the picturesque Rosental to celebrate the season's end. Experience the unique atmosphere of this open-air concert, the highlight of every Gewandhaus season. Celebrate the unifying power of music together. Starting at 4 pm, families can enjoy activities and try out instruments. Thanks to the support of Porsche Leipzig and other sponsors, this grand, free open-air concert is made possible.

The Wilmersdorf Chamber Choir celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Together with pianist Philip Mayers, they present works from the 19th to 21st centuries in various instrumentations: mixed choir a cappella and with piano, as well as women's choir and solo singing with piano and piano solo. Hear about the fate of a water fairy, an elf, and the storm wind of menacing spirits, before concluding the evening with meditative sounds.
