Two Russian masters, Prokofiev and Glazunov, meet: Prokofiev's 5th Symphony, composed in 1944 amidst war chaos, sounds heroic and emotional. Glazunov's 5th Symphony starts mysteriously, unfolds into a playful scherzo, and culminates in a radiant finale. Conducted by Lorenzo Viotti, this concert is for those under 29 who love epic music and an unforgettable live experience.

Wiener Klassik

Lisa Wittig (Soprano), Nataliia Kukhar (Mezzo-Soprano), Mykhailo Kushlyk (Tenor), Baurzhan Anderzhanov (Bass), Philharmonischer Chor Essen, Essener Philharmoniker, Richard Egarr (Conductor)
Haydn's "Missa in angustiis," his only mass in a minor key, reflects the turbulent times of the Napoleonic Wars. Beethoven's Symphony No. 2, written as his deafness began, is surprisingly playful and full of contrast. Mozart's Symphony No. 1, composed at the age of eight, reveals a composer brimming with energy, imagination, and original ideas.

Klassik am Odeonsplatz

Fri, Jul 12, 2024, 20:00
Sir Simon Rattle (Conductor), Anja Kampe (Soprano), Michael Volle (Bariton), Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks
Attracting around 8,000 visitors on site and considerably more via TV and radio, Klassik am Odeonsplatz is one of the highlights of every BRSO season. For this year’s program, Sir Simon Rattle has chosen excerpts from Wagner’s Walküre, of which Brahms probably would have approved. In his opinion, there were “wonderful things” in it, and said about one performance: “In the Second Act, I drink a glass of beer, deliberately lie down for half an hour, and afterwards I feel refreshed again.” Brahms wrote his Second Symphony during a summer holiday on Lake Wörthersee. It’s the perfect piece for a wonderful Munich open-air concert – possibly with a glass of beer to celebrate the new BRSO chief conductor’s first season.

Schillertheater, Großer Saal (Berlin)
The catchy and heartwarming melodies of Jewish Klezmer music are the perfect start to the new year. Mahler's musical language, rooted in Bohemian folk music tradition, resonates with Klezmer. Uri Caine and his band, along with the Komische Oper Berlin orchestra, will evoke both tears and foot-tapping. Embrace these emotions and step confidently into 2025. Happy New Year!
