Branford Marsalis Quartet & Friends

Saxophonist and composer Branford Marsalis has been a fixture in jazz for decades. He is also a sought-after classical soloist with acclaimed orchestras around the world and his legendary guest performances with the Grateful Dead and collaborations with Sting have made him a fan favorite in the pop arena. The Branford Marsalis Quartet, formed in 1986, has established a rare breadth of stylistic range and is revered for its uncompromising interpretation of both original compositions and jazz and popular classics. The Quartet is now joined by 7 excellent Hungarian musicians to perform songs based on Hungarian Folk Music. Marsalis knew he was not interested in simply adding »jazz« chords to folk songs noting that »the chords, the harmonies are perfect as they are. They have just the right emotional impact.« The project was commissioned by Müpa and first premiered in Budapest, where it was immediately praised as a success.

Die Feisten

When »Die Feisten« do what they like to do best, lots of new songs tumble out of their songwriting machine: one for the forcibly shipped, involuntary concert guests who would actually rather be at the football or a heavy metal gig. Another about the best-before date of all of us: »Mein Körper und ich« (My Body and Me) shows how you can laugh about your own decay. It’s going to be funny. All the new stories in good company with the feisty hits.

Gustav Peter Wöhler Band

Singer and actor Gustav Peter Wöhler and his band have been on stage together for twenty-five years. The quartet’s programme features an ever-changing collection of personal favourite songs. The programme builds bridges between stars and one-hit wonders, classics and personal discoveries. The spectrum ranges from Joe Jackson, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell to Rio Reiser and June Carter. The titles are framed by Gustav Peter Wöhler’s very personal stories – the audience thanks him with standing ovations!
