Inspired by György Ligeti's microtonality, Lithuanian composer Justė Janulytė's "Iridescence" features vibrant soundscapes and ever-changing harmonies. The spiraling sound, evoking infinity and eternal light, connects with the ancient text in Helmut Lachenmann's "Consolation." Josef Gabriel Rheinberger's "Cantus missae" shares this theme of eternal faith, showcasing the Liechtenstein composer's emphatic style.

Exaudi Late Night: a cappella

Fascinatingly fragile tonal images: Exaudi is one of the world’s leading vocal ensembles with a strong affinity for the outlying margins of new and ancient music. This group of singers can now be experienced at Musikfest Berlin in a late-night concert of chromatically spectacular Renaissance music. In the Papal chapel singer and music theorist Vicente Lusitano an artist is also represented who is now thought likely to be the first Black composer to be published in Europe.

Naturally 7 create the multi-faceted sound cosmos of a whole band from the sound of the drums to the bass, the guitar, the harmonica or even the trombone – and completely without instruments! The seven men sing a cappella, but they are not comparable with many other groups of this genre, because only a few achieve such a perfect sound. Sometimes it’s R’n’B, soul or hip hop, sometimes gospel, pop or even rock. When »Die Feisten« do what they like to do best, lots of new songs tumble out of their songwriting machine: one for the forcibly shipped, involuntary concert guests who would actually rather be at the football or a heavy metal gig. Another about the best-before date of all of us: »Mein Körper und ich« (My Body and Me) shows how you can laugh about your own decay. It’s going to be funny. Gustav Peter Wöhler Band

Singer and actor Gustav Peter Wöhler and his band have been on stage together for twenty-five years. The quartet’s programme features an ever-changing collection of personal favourite songs. The programme builds bridges between stars and one-hit wonders, classics and personal discoveries. The spectrum ranges from Joe Jackson, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell to Rio Reiser and June Carter. The titles are framed by Gustav Peter Wöhler’s very personal stories – the audience thanks him with standing ovations!
