In 2013, Jörg Widmann composed his first—and to date his only—song cycle. Das heiße Herz (“The Burning Heart”) is based on the works of a wide range of authors, including Clemens Brentano, Heinrich Heine, Klabund, and Peter Härtling, as well as lesser known poems from Des Knaben Wunderhorn. Christian Immler and Andreas Frese, who have won acclaim for their collaboration on the cycle’s premiere recording, perform Widmann’s songs opposite works by Schumann and Mahler.

The innately humanistic sound ideal of Johann Sebastian Bach and his son Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach meets the youthful, romantic gesture of Felix Mendelssohn: the 4th Academy Concert continues the series of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos that began with the 1st Academy Concert. It is music so popular and widely admired that it was launched into space on a data disk aboard the »Voyager 2« space probe in 1977. Now it is back in Hamburg. His Symphony No. 6, nicknamed the »Hamburg Symphony« is a clear sign that Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach has no reason to be disconcerted by any overbearing legacy of his famous father.

This overshadowed his other Christmas cantatas. After its premiere 300 years ago, Bach continued to perform a related cantata, reminiscent of Part 4 of the Christmas Oratorio. His 1724 Sanctus, later integrated into the Mass in B minor, and the chorale cantata "Liebster Immanuel," intended for Epiphany, also belong to his second Leipzig cantata year.

This overshadowed his other Christmas cantatas, like the chorale cantata from 1724. Bach reused the latter cantata, reminiscent of the Christmas Oratorio's Part 4 in its instrumentation, into the 1740s. His 1724 Sanctus (later in the Mass in B minor) and the chorale cantata "Liebster Immanuel" also belong to his second Leipzig cantata year. "Liebster Immanuel," intended for Epiphany like Part VI of the Christmas Oratorio, premiered on January 6, 1725. Unlike the latter's imposing brass, it features flutes and oboe d'amore, lending an ethereal intimacy.
