Melancholy can be so beautiful! The indie folk pop of Amber & the Moon combines the gentle voice of lead singer Ronja Pöhlmann with acoustic arrangements of captivating fragility. Celestial and mysterious, the songs of their debut album »Things We’ve Got in Common« recount life with its ups and downs. Ronja herself describes it as »a warm blanket for the cold season which gives you comfort«. The best programme for a (probably rainy) autumn evening at the Elbphilharmonie! Amber & the Moon started as a solo project by Ronja Pöhlmann. In Jonathan Riedel, she got to know a versatile comrade-in-arms, who not only adds bass guitar, but also backing vocals. Now, there are five of them on tour and they enjoy the full band sound: »The band is an even larger musical sofa on which you can relax,« says Jonathan. »It is cool when a song also works as a duet, but grows again and becomes even bigger with the band,« adds Ronja.

No false modesty: the »André Heller Reflektor« is brought to a close by the Best of Vienna, a title they thoroughly deserve, even if the Austrian capital is also home to heaps of other artists who are no less good than they are. The city boasts a music history going back centuries in a genre that no other city in the world can claim: Viennese song. Festival curator André Heller himself is of course one of the best from Vienna too, and will be taking to the concert stage for the first time in decades. His performance and the entire concert are available in the Elbphilharmonie Mediatheque: Go to video on demand Four years ago, some of these artists performed at the Elbphilharmonie’s »Ganz Wien« festival. Ernst Molden, who always mixes a little bit of Mississippi into the Danube waters with his guitar playing, has, with André Heller, recruited a group of musicians who all have one thing in common: with deep respect for tradition, they breathe new life into Viennese song, thereby keeping the genre vibrant and alive. The charismatic singer Voodoo Jürgens will be among them, as will Nino Mandl, who is better known as Der Nino aus Wien, the Dylan from the Danube city. The clever and sarcastic songwriter Anna Mabo, who plays some of her choruses on a kazoo, and the fabulous singers Tini Kainrath and Ursula Strauss will also be there. Instrumental variety is provided by the Neue Wiener Concert Schrammeln and the Frauenorchester, which actually consists of only three women playing guitar, bass and drums. The Best of Vienna are the best simply because they come from Vienna.

In 1969, Fleetwood Mac sold more records than the Beatles or the Rolling Stones. The band’s album »Rumours« from 1977 is one of the most successful albums in music history. No wonder that a huge fan base rallied around the band – and still does today! »Rumours of Fleetwood Mac« was established in 1999 to pay tribute to this unique band that shaped the zeitgeist of the 60s to the 90s. To call this band, consisting of seven musicians, a tribute band would be too short-sighted. »It’s about their music« is their tour motto, which they decided on several years ago. In this sense, they try to perform the music of Fleetwood Mac as faithfully as possible and, above all, to revive the spirit of this worldwide celebrated band and its time. In the Finnish national epic »Kalevala«, the magical singer Väinämöinen makes a stringed plucked instrument from the jaws of a giant pike and a second one from birch wood. As he plays, all the animals of the forest come to him and even the people stop their work to listen to this Nordic Orpheus. The sounds of the so-called »kantele« – a box zither that is not only common in Finland, but also in Estonia and north-west Russia – enchant listeners to this day.
