Duo Ruut

Date & Time
Fri, Aug 23, 2024, 19:30
In the Finnish national epic »Kalevala«, the magical singer Väinämöinen makes a stringed plucked instrument from the jaws of a giant pike and a second one from birch wood. As he plays, all the animals of the forest come to him and even the people stop their work to listen to this Nordic Orpheus. The sounds of the so-called »kantele« – a box zither that is not only common in Finland, but also in Estonia and north-west Russia – enchant listeners to this day.

Owen Pallett

Mon, Nov 18, 2024, 19:30
Elbphilharmonie, Kleiner Saal (Hamburg)
Owen Pallett (Violin), Owen Pallett (Vocals), Owen Pallett (Guitar)
When you close your eyes to the music of Owen Pallett, you hear keyboard, bass, percussion, violin, vocals...But there’s only one person on stage? Unbelievable, but true. With voice, electronics, keyboard and violin, Owen Pallett weaves himself and the audience into seemingly endless, magical worlds of sound. And the most exciting thing – in a live concert, you can listen to and watch these acoustic worlds being created: Pallett plays the keyboard and records a loop. Percussive elements, violin melodies, vocals; one layer after the other is added, the sounds complement each other and spread throughout the hall. The result is overwhelming: delicate and subtle, powerful and complex, delightful and touching at the same time.

Einstürzende Neubauten

Sun, Sep 15, 2024, 20:00
Elbphilharmonie, Großer Saal (Hamburg)
Blixa Bargeld (Percussion), Alexander Hacke (Percussion), N.U. Unruh (Percussion), Jochen Arbeit (Percussion), Rudolf Moser (Percussion)
They search for new forms. For the undiscovered sound and the as yet unspoken word. Since their foundation on 1 April 1980, Einstürzende Neubauten have been shifting the parameters of mainstream and subculture in order to make the inaudible audible. And perhaps also the outrageous. An attempt at field research spanning four decades that is now entering the next stage. In its 44th year of existence, the formation is going far back to its roots in order to redefine itself at the same time. A changed self-image for which the Berlin quintet plus one has created its own genre in 2024: »apm – alien pop music«.

Valgeir Sigurðsson

Fri, May 30, 2025, 19:30
Elbphilharmonie, Kleiner Saal (Hamburg)
Valgeir Sigurðsson (Live electronics), Valgeir Sigurðsson (Piano), Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe (Countertenor), Elisabeth Klinck (Violin)
Wherever classical and electronic music meet, the Icelander Valgeir Sigurðsson is not far away. In the ProArte X series, he joins forces with Belgian theatre maker and countertenor Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe and violinist Elisabeth Klinck to form an unconventional trio. Together they explore the fluid transitions between spherical soundscapes, as only Sigurðsson knows how to create them, and the classical sounds of voice and violin. The desire to experiment and the wish to create an atmospheric antithesis to the torn present can be heard in every note of her »Isabelle Lewis« project: close your eyes, open your ears and go with the flow of sound.

Piano//Duo EnsariSchuch

Sun, Mar 3, 2024, 19:30
Elbphilharmonie, Kleiner Saal (Hamburg)
Gülru Ensari (Piano), Herbert Schuch (Piano)
He loves her musical spontaneity and she appreciates his flair for special programmes: The Piano//Duo EnsariSchuch! Making music together as a piano duo requires not only musical skills, but also almost »blind« trust in each other. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that Gülru Ensari and Herbert Schuch also have a private connection: Both have been a married couple for nine years and have a daughter together. The two are an ideal constellation because they combine the advantages of different worlds: Herbert’s childhood in Romania, as well as Gülru’s Turkish roots – and can therefore come up with a wide range of musical colours. In their programme »Eternity«, the two shed light on the theme of eternity in music and seek answers to many questions: How does infinity explain itself? Which pieces make you forget space and time? Is redemption or nothingness waiting behind death? They approach these essential questions through the works of Brahms, Schubert, Ravel and Beethoven.

Duo Jazzical Class

Wed, Apr 9, 2025, 20:00
Peter Fleckenstein (Percussion), Žilvinas Brazauskas (Clarinet), Žilvinas Brazauskas (Piano)
It begins with the baroque Jean-Philippe Rameau and is far from over with George Gershwin's furious »I got rhythm«. »Jazzical Class« is Peter Fleckenstein, principal timpanist in the Gürzenich Orchestra, and clarinettist Žilvinas Brazauskas. As a duo, they have been cultivating the joyful clash of the most diverse genres since 2013. Connected by an entertaining moderation, their programme moves from classical music to tango to jazz, from »Little Green Cactus« to original compositions such as »Wartesaal« and back again with sophisticated arrangements and breakneck improvisations. The joy of playing and the humour with which they use their instruments is unmistakable: in addition to Bb clarinet, bass clarinet, vibraphone, xylophone, djembe and snare drum, they also use piano, voices and bodies. The audience can look forward to a rousing mix of classical, jazz and world music!

50 years ago, Barclay James Harvest and founder Les Horloyd started their musical journey in Manchester. Probably the most subtle representatives of Classical Rock came together in 1967 and have been delighting audiences with their melancholic classical rock and esoteric spherical sounds. Now the British band is going on tour in Germany again.
