The series will focus on English polyphony composers Orlando Gibbons, Henry Purcell, and William Lawes. Post-concert discussions with the audience are planned.

Das Ensemble Phantasm, ein Gambenconsort, lädt seit Mitte März 2025 zu einer eigenen Konzertreihe in der St. Elisabeth-Kirche in Berlin-Mitte. Die Konzerte widmen sich ganz der Polyphonie und rücken jeweils einen in dieser Kompositionstechnik besonders profilierten Komponisten in den Fokus. Die Konzerte der Saison 2025/26 bieten dem Berliner Publikum Gelegenheit, kompositorisches Neuland zu erkunden – die englischen Komponisten Orlando Gibbons, Henry Purcell und William Lawes sind zwar in ihrem Heimatland, auf dem europäischen Festland dagegen kaum bis wenig bekannt. Mit den Polyphonischen Begegnungen soll ein Teil dieses betörend schönen Repertoires dem Berliner Publikum nahegebracht werden. Mit ihren Darmsaiten, der leichten Bauweise, der unauffälligen Bogenführung und dem sparsamen Einsatz von Vibrato bilden zusammen erklingende Gamben vielleicht die ideale Kombination für die Wahrnehmung der verschiedenen polyphonen Stränge, während sie gleichzeitig alle Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten von Instrumenten der Geigenfamilie ausschöpfen können. Das vielfach preisgekrönte Phantasm Viol Consort wurde 1994 von Laurence Dreyfus gegründet und hat sich bald als eines der besten Gambenensembles weltweit etabliert. Profiliert hat es sich nicht nur über exzellente Spieltechnik, die sich auf die großen Traditionen der Kammermusik beruft, sondern auch über seine dramaturgisch ausgefeilten wie musikalisch-sinnlichen Programme. In Berlin erregte Phantasm zuletzt große Aufmerksamkeit mit "The Art of Being Human", einem Projekt, in dem Musik, Tanz und Bildende Kunst eine faszinierende Symbiose eingingen, und das im März 2023 im Pierre Boulez Saal uraufgeführt wurde. Mit der eigenen Konzertreihe strebt Phantasm nicht nur die Verbreitung des in Berlin wenig gespielten englischen Polyphonie-Repertoires an, sondern ebenso die unmittelbare Begegnung mit dem Publikum. Im Anschluss an die Konzerte heißt das Ensemble die Zuschauer herzlich zum zwanglosen Gespräch an der Bar ein – was man schon immer über Gamben, Consort etc. wissen wollte, kann bei diesen Gelegenheiten gefragt werden. Starting mid-March 2025, the viol consort Phantasm launches its concert series at St. Elisabeth Church in Berlin-Mitte. The series focuses on polyphony, highlighting a prominent composer of the technique in each concert. The inaugural concert, "The Well-Tempered Consort," features Bach, transcribed for three to five viols, offering a new perspective on his works. The concert also celebrates the release of Phantasm's new album, "The Art of Fugue." A post-concert drink is offered to all attendees.

Performance of works by Cras, Penderecki, and Koechlin featuring Anton Hollich (clarinet), Anna Breidenstein (violin), Janis Lielbardis (viola), and others. The program includes Cras' String Trio, Penderecki's Quartet for Clarinet and String Trio, and Koechlin's String Quartet No. 2.

His first piano trio, written at seventeen, is a testament to this. Also worth discovering is the piano quintet by the Polish romanticist Juliusz Zarębski, dedicated to his teacher Franz Liszt.

The concerts range from public rehearsals by the Concertgebouworkest, to chamber music performances by young up-and-coming artists.For Lunchtime Concerts you will require a free ticket, which you can buy online. Doors to the concert hall open about 30 minutes before the Lunchtime Concert starts.We offer a broad range of music: the majority of concerts include classical music, but you can sometimes hear more modern repertoire. The concert programme is announced one week in advance on our website. The concerts last thirty minutes and are free of charge. Visitors are advised that these concerts are suitable for children from six years old.
