Konzert zum Karfreitag

Date & Time
Fri, Apr 18, 2025, 19:00
Joseph Haydn's “The Seven Last Words of Our Savior on the Cross” are dramatically emotional. First performed in 1796, the vocal version is one of the most popular pieces of Passion music. Beforehand, writer Navid Kermani will read from his highly acclaimed, intelligent and poetic book “Unbelieving Amazement. On Christianity”. In it, the winner of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade “immerses himself in the world of Christian imagery and marvels at a religion full of sacrifice and lamentation, love and miracles.”

Gewandhausorchester (Orchestra), Chor der Oper Leipzig (Choir), GewandhausChor (Choir), GewandhausKinderchor (Choir), Andris Nelsons (Conductor), Emily Magee (Soprano), Gerhild Romberger (Alto), Werner Güra (Tenor), Ain Anger (Bass)
Was 2024 like Allegro ma non troppo? D major or D minor? With timpani and trumpets or homogeneous strings? How will 2025 be? Sempre stringendo or più piano? Will we leave the old tones behind and intone new, more joyful ones? No matter what 2024 was like, it ends well with the Ninth. And no matter what 2025 will be like, it begins better with the Ninth.

Finnegan Downie Dear (Conductor), Dalia Schaechter (Recitation), Adriane Queiroz (Soprano), Natalia Skrycka (Alto), Junho Hwang (Tenor), Carles Pachon (Bariton), Friedrich Hamel (Bass)

Eingerahmt wird das Werk mit Musik von Béla Bartók und Franz Schubert, die in besonderer Weise klassische Formen reflektieren. Schuberts 5. Sinfonie knüpft an die große Tradition der Wiener Klassik an.
