Abschlusskonzert TONALi Festival

Sat, Jul 6, 2024, 19:30
Elbphilharmonie, Großer Saal (Hamburg)
Stegreif – The Improvising Symphony Orchestra, Akademist:innen aus dem 13. Jahrgang der TONALi Bühnenakademie, Schüler:innen aus TONALi Patenschulen, Anwohner:innen aus dem TONALi-Kunstschutzgebiet, Publikumskünstler:innen
The TONALi Festival will conclude with the »Social Symphony«, a work that is an expression of the »Kunstschutzgebiets« (»art sanctuary«) and all kinds of artistic investigations that have previously taken place around TONALi. The curation of the evening is in the hands of the Berliner Stegreif Orchestra. They are concerned with the question: What kind of concert experience do we want to create for the audience and the artists that unites everyone in the moment and accompanies them in the long term? The boundary between artists and audience is blurring, the dividing lines between stage and auditorium are disappearing and the boundaries of the classical concert are being crossed. No one can predict the future, but together we can choose the path: giving a voice to everyone in the Elbphilharmonie. It will be a festival of surprises!

Mass in b minor

Sat, Oct 12, 2024, 15:00
Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Fredrik Malmberg (Conductor), Eric Ericson Chamber Choir, Kathrin Lorenzen (Soprano), Anna Zander (Mezzo-Soprano), Morten Grove Frandsen (Alto), Thomas Volle (Tenor), Karl Peter Eriksson (Bass)
Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B minor is one of the truly great masterpieces in music history. Compiled from music he had composed for various occasions over a period of 25 years. Here we find both the magnificent Sanctus, which he composed for Christmas in 1724 when he was new to the job as cantor in Leipzig, and the Osanna written in 1749 by an elderly, almost blind Bach. The Mass in B minor is something of a culmination of Bach's fantastic work.We hear the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir together with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra conducted by Fredrik Malmberg. Soloists include soprano Anna Zander, who has a special focus on early music, and Kathrin Lorenzen, who won the prestigious Soloist Prize earlier this year. The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir was founded in 1945 by the then 27-year-old Eric Ericson and has since then held a central place in Swedish and international music life. The choir belongs to the absolute top tier of professional ensembles internationally, and since 2003, Eric Ericson's Chamber Choir has had a close collaboration with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra at the Concert Hall. Please note: The concert includes an intermission.

Mass in B minor

Fri, Dec 12, 2025, 20:15
Richard Egarr (Conductor), Johanna Ihrig (Sopraan 1), Mary Bevan (Sopraan 2), Helen Charleston (Alt), Guy Cutting (Tenor), Matthew Brook (Bas)
Sublime, outsized, all-embracing. Only superlatives will suffice to describe Bach’s Mass in B minor. At the end of his life, Bach brought his best and most beautiful pieces together in a single Mass. That was how Bach wanted to be remembered, and the Mass in B minor is his musical testament. Sublime, outsized, all-embracing“In between the awe-inspiring ‘Kyrie’ and the jubilant ‘Dona nobis pacem’ come nine totally unique arias and duets, fourteen impressive choral sections and a broad range of instrumental solos. The British conductor Richard Egarr is leading the ensemble on this Christmas tour. Egarr says, “Some musical compositions are simply greater than any performance can realise: Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and Bach’s Mass in B minor are two such examples. These transcendental masterpieces were deliberately created as messages of hope for posterity, and as a challenge for us to attain the same artistic heights. It’s always a supremely humbling joy to make that journey with Bach in this sublime creation.”
