Im Herzen des Lichts. Die Nacht der Primadonnen

Sat, Mar 23, 2024, 16:00
Elbphilharmonie, Kaistudio 1 (Hamburg)
Every 33 years, the 12 best singers in the world assemble in a secret grotto close to the picturesque town of Taormina on the east coast of Sicily. There, they celebrate a joyous festival of voices from sunset to sunrise. Songs of different styles and cultures ring out and blend into an energetic artistic synthesis. André Heller brought to life a 70-minute excerpt from this self-conceived mythical ritual in an imaginative film together with the Oscar award winner Pepe Danquart in 2002. The prima donnas are thereby represented by international stars, such as the opera singer Jessye Norman, the double Grammy award winner and jazz legend Dee Dee Bridgewater, the Israeli singer Achinoam Nini known as Noa and the Portuguese Fado singer Cristina Branco. An electrifying alternative to the fast-paced music videos of the present day.

"Tausendundeine Nacht"

Sat, Apr 5, 2025, 11:00
Essener Philharmoniker, Wolfram-Maria Märtig (Conductor), Malte Arkona (Moderator)
A Persian sultan, enraged by his unfaithful wife, murders a young woman every morning. A clever princess aims to end this terror through storytelling. This frame story from "One Thousand and One Nights" inspired Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade." A solo violin portrays the princess, while the orchestra depicts her stories of storms, caravans, feasts, and flying carpets.
