For decades, Matthias Eisenberg has enchanted audiences with his improvisations on self-chosen or given themes, causing them to cheer. In this year's Christmas Organ Music on 25.12., he will improvise on well-known Christmas carols, but first present himself as a profound Bach interpreter again and perform some gems from Bach's rich oeuvre with the “Orgelbüchlein-Choräle”, one of the six trio sonatas and Prelude and Fugue in G major as an “overture”.
The Apollo Choir of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden will perform J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio, parts 1-3, for their annual Christmas concert. Wishing for peace, light, and joy in difficult times, the choir has chosen this piece to bring joy and confidence to the audience.
You can simply go to a concert at the Philharmonie, spontaneously, during your lunch break – and with free admission: every Wednesday at 13:00 between September and June. The programme lasts 40 to 50 minutes: chamber music, piano works or a percussion duo – everything from Tchaikovsky to tango. Barefoot or heels? No question for trumpeter Lucienne Renaudin Vary, even in the Berlin winter. With bare feet, she feels the vibrations of the music directly and also feels “much more comfortable on stage, almost like at home.” But there is no trace of eccentricity - the 25-year-old Frenchwoman, who says that the trumpet is her voice, comes across as natural and grounded, whether she is playing jazz or classical repertoire. With the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, Hummel's radiant trumpet concerto and other works for trumpet and orchestra, she will give you an atmospheric Advent concert evening under the chandeliers in the magnificent Great Hall. And as Christmas approaches, a classic such as Tchaikovsky's “Nutcracker” suite is of course a must!
No conductor leads this chamber orchestra. Two experienced and sought-after chamber musicians, soloists, and Eisler professors, violinist Ulf Wallin and cellist Claudio Bohórquez, rehearse the concert program alongside the students. In the annual "Play&Lead Concerts" at the Konzerthaus Berlin, teachers and the ensemble meticulously work on highly demanding pieces. This offers valuable work experience for young instrumental students.
Bach's Christmas Oratorio, with its festive choruses, catchy arias, and Christmas chorales, illuminates the Christmas story. The Kantorei am Weinberg and the Collegium Musicum Sophiense, conducted by Julia Hedtfeld and Maximilian Schnaus, will perform it at the Sophienkirche on the second Sunday of Advent.

Both create music through the flow of air, and yet they could hardly be more different: the powerful, large organ and the intimate, modest flute.
