In 1972, East German writer Peter Hacks surprised audiences with his comedic adaptation of Adam and Eve's fall from grace. Hacks' play, Adam und Eva, humorously examines the absurdities of existence and advocates for freedom from moral categories. Composer Mike Svoboda, known for his work in new music, jazz, and performance, sets Hacks' comedy to music, with a libretto by Anne-May Krüger, making its themes relevant to today's audiences.

Masterclass with Alan Gilbert

Take a look over chief conductor Alan Gilbert’s shoulder as he teaches: The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra invites you to do just that in the Grand Hall of the Elbphilharmonie. Most music fans can easily imagine how to learn the violin or piano. But what does it actually mean to be a good conductor? How can you hone your percussion technique, rehearsal work and interpretation skills? Or does it all come down to intuition and stage presence? Building on the extremely successful conducting scholarship that he initiated in 2019 as chief conductor of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, Alan Gilbert is now giving a conducting masterclass. Over the course of three days, the leading international maestro and experienced pedagogue will take a close look at the baton of six talented young conductors who were previously selected in an application process and give them valuable ideas for their future careers. The last day of the course is open to the public – a unique opportunity to gain exciting insights into the art of conducting!
