Pieces ofRichard Strauss, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Alexander Zemlinsky, Gustav Mahler u. a.

Star mezzo-soprano Elina Garanca effortlessly blends delicate lieder and dramatic opera arias in a diverse recital exploring love's facets. From Brahms' melancholic Seelenbilder and Schumann's Frauenliebe und Leben to passionate portrayals by Berlioz, Saint-Saëns, and Mascagni, culminating in the fiery temperament of Spanish Zarzuelas, Garanca, accompanied by pianist Matthias Schulz, showcases her vocal prowess.

Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss, two great late-Romantic composers, met in their mid-twenties and remained lifelong friends. Despite their differences, which Mahler compared to miners digging from opposite sides of a mountain, they admired each other. This concert features songs from Mahler's "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" and Strauss's love songs, highlighting their closeness in this genre.
