30 Years of Mnozil Brass

Fri, Apr 12, 2024, 13:00
Elbphilharmonie, Großer Saal (Hamburg)
Thomas Gansch (Trumpet), Thomas Gansch (Flugelhorn), Robert Rother (Trumpet), Robert Rother (Flugelhorn), Roman Rindberger (Trumpet), Roman Rindberger (Flugelhorn), Gerhard Füssl (Trumpet), Leonhard Paul (Trombone), Leonhard Paul (Bass trumpet), Zoltán Kiss (Tenor trombone), Zoltán Kiss (Alto trombone), Wilfried Brandstötter (F-tuba)
It is now 30 years since a few cheeky music students with the ambition of a career as orchestral musicians gave in to the temptations of pub music at the Mnozil Inn in Vienna and thus made their unplanned way into the entertainment business. They left the noble world of classical music behind them and travelled the globe with brass show tunes and hits. Success came quickly and the inevitable happened: the decades flew by and students eventually became professors themselves. But the fire of blown music never goes out! It still burns brightly in their hearts in 2023, just like back then, in the small Viennese pub. And that’s why Mnozil Brass is once again setting out for new shores and presenting the ultimate brass birthday in the form of an anniversary show: »Jubelei! – 30 Years of Mnozil Brass. Happy Birthday to Us!«

Chanukah, the festival of lights, is an ancient Jewish holiday. This year we are also proud to celebrate our 10th Anniversary Concert. Together with the Jewish Community of Amsterdam, we will celebrate the fourth night of Chanukah by jointly lighting the Chanukia (traditional eight armed candelabra) on the stage of The Concertgebouw. We’ve put together a special program made up of highlights from our previous nine concerts – which will appeal to both a Jewish and non-Jewish audience. Everyone is welcome to attend.Once again, we warmly welcome Chief-Cantor Chaim Stern to the stage, captivating us with his breathtaking voice. In celebration of this 10th Anniversary concert, we are honored to present the world-renowned Shuly Nathan, performing her iconic rendition of "Jerusalem of Gold." The Jewish Amsterdam Chamber Ensemble will offer a diverse program, featuring Jewish, Israeli, classical, and contemporary music. We are also pleased to have Barry Mehler return as Musical Director, with Leo Samama as concert patron. At our concert you’ll enjoy more than just music. Anniversary concert 15 years JeKi (an instrument for every child)

Wed, May 21, 2025, 18:00
Laeiszhalle, Großer Saal (Hamburg)
Schüler:innen und Lehrkräfte aus Hamburger JeKi-Schulen, Blechbläser-Ensemble der Jugendmusikschule Hamburg, Jubiläums-Band
Over the past 15 years, the Ministry of Schools and Vocational Training has opened this door for 50,000 primary school children in 69 schools in Hamburg: from getting to know the instruments for the first time and trying out how to produce sound, to weekly lessons in small groups and presentations at school and beyond, the JeKi children have immersed themselves in the world of instrumental playing. As with seasoned musicians, listening, imitating, trying things out, helping each other, showing, practising, playing together, extra rehearsals and performing have become part of their lives. JeKi enables all children to take part, regardless of their family background, because it is free of charge. This gives every child in the JeKi schools the chance to climb the first steps on an instrument of their choice. 15 years of JeKi are truly a reason to be proud and to celebrate in style, and the Laeiszhalle provides the festive setting. The varied programme includes songs and pieces from different genres, which are presented by individual JeKi groups or jointly by the anniversary orchestra across schools.

8ZEHN 30 – Kurzkonzert

Thu, Nov 28, 2024, 18:30
Konzerthaus Berlin, Großer Saal (Berlin)
Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Joana Mallwitz (Conductor), Florian Groß (Conductor)
The one-hour short concerts ‘8Zehn30’ on Thursdays from 18:30 at the Konzerthaus Berlin are always short and sweet: let go of everyday life and simply immerse yourself in 60 minutes of music without a break - regardless of whether the end of the working day is already in sight or another evening shift has to be put in. The orchestra musicians of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin accompany their audience through a short(er) concert evening - from the personal introduction to the after-concert drinks at the bar in the Beethoven Hall.Ludwig van Beethoven's 5th Symphony from 1807/08 begins with four notes that are among the most famous beginnings of works in music history. Its universe, according to a popular interpretation, is the individual and his fate. This is why it unofficially bears the German nickname ‘Fate Symphony’, which was not given to it by Beethoven. The composer struggled with his early onset of deafness. He found the strength not to despair in composing and also wanted to uplift his fellow human beings in distress: ‘Anyone who knows my music cannot become completely despondent.’
