On a single whiplash, the door opens to a world of colours and light: Maurice Ravel’s piano concerto in G Major is fascinating from the very first note. Basque folklore, sounds from Spain and southern France, crystalline sparkle, and elegant jazz – musical notes become images, some tender and fluffy, others rich and bright. Ravel’s compatriot, French pianist Bertrand Chamayou, seems completely in his element in this dazzling bravura piece. The other two works are equally sensual to the eye and the ear: In his Ballet Gayaneh, Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian lets the sparks fly, including a fiery sabre dance. Modest Mussorgsky invites us to a vernissage where he paces from painting to painting, creatively turning each of them into sounds.

Ruby Hughes. Manchester Collective End of My Days

Soprano Ruby Hughes commented on her program "End of My Days," created with the Manchester Collective during the first COVID-19 lockdown: "Music always has the potential to speak to us, to comfort us, and to help us feel understood." The program's songs by John Dowland, Claude Debussy, Gustav Mahler, and other composers, including contemporary ones, empathetically explore themes of love, loss, and separation. Mahler's "Urlicht" conveys the confidence that we will return to where we came from when we enter eternity. The title song by Errollyn Wallen embraces death and celebrates life.

Discover Talent: Giorgi Gigashvili / Piano recital

»He is a particularly great talent. I was fascinated by his incredible intuition when we played together. He also plays jazz and pop, composes and sings. The new generation is very open and flexible,« enthuses violinist Lisa Batiashvili about the young pianist Giorgi Gigashvili. The Georgian initially opted for a career as a singer and arranger of pop and folk music. In the end, however, he dedicated himself to playing the piano – and quite successfully at that. In recent years, he has won numerous prestigious piano prizes, most recently 2nd prize at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in 2023. The openness praised by Batiashvili is also reflected in Giorgi Gigashvili’s programme. In addition to works by Ravel and Prokofiev, the programme also includes two rarely heard composers: Josef Bardanashvili and Galina Ustvolskaya.

With her dazzling technique and natural stage presence, Dutch violinist Janine Jansen has long been among the top tier of international star violinists. Pianist Denis Kozhukhin also combines outstanding technique with mature musicality and an ability to establish a close connection with the audience. They have both previously visited Konserhuset, individually and together.During their acclaimed visit in 2022, they performed, among other pieces, Brahms' third violin sonata. Now, we hear the first two: the "rain sonata," so named because its finale includes a quote from Brahms' own song "Regenlied," and the second, named "Thun" after the town in Switzerland where Brahms spent time when he composed it. There, he was inspired by the beautiful surroundings. "There are so many melodies here that one must be careful not to trample on any of them," he expressed it.Before Ravel's concluding violin sonata with its famous blues movement, we hear Eugène Ysaÿe's sensually dark-toned Poème élégiaque, a milestone in the violin repertoire, and Olivier Messiaen's Thème et variations, which in character resembles his most performed work, Quartet for the End of Time.

Giorgi Gigashvili Hinter den Spiegeln

Georgian pianist Giorgi Gigashvili balances his classical career with his passion for experimental electronic music. In 2025, he returns to Heidelberg with a program featuring Ravel's "Miroirs," Bardanashvili's "Postlude," Ustvolskaya's Sonata No. 6, and Prokofiev's War Sonata No. 1. This concert is part of the Culture Circle of German Business's music prize, awarded to Gigashvili in 2024 for his exceptional stage presence and musicality.

Seit 1953 fördert der Kulturkreis der deutschen Wirtschaft junge, aufstrebende Talente der klassischen Musik. Der Musikpreis soll dabei zu Beginn einer Musikkarriere als kraftvolle Unterstützung dienen und richtet sich an herausragende Instrumentalisten*innen und Sänger*innen unter 30 Jahren, die im deutschsprachigen Raum leben und mit einer eigenständigen künstlerischen Stimme Brücken zum Publikum bauen. Der im Jahr 2024 neu ausgerichtete Musikpreis der deutschen Wirtschaft umfasst nicht nur das Preisgeld in Höhe von 15.000 Euro, sondern vor allem Auftrittsmöglichkeiten bei renommierten Partnerfestivals im Rahmen der „Kulturkreis-Tournee“. Zu den Partnerfestivals gehören neben dem Heidelberger Frühling das Beethovenfest Bonn, die Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, die Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele, das Lucerne Festival sowie das Rheingau Musik Festival. Beim Finalkonzert erhalten die drei Finalist*innen die Möglichkeit, sich sowohl der Jury als auch dem breiten Publikum des Festivals zu präsentieren. Dabei werden sie vom Ensemble Resonanz begleitet. Rising violinist Maria Ioudenitch and her pianist father, Stanislav, share a close bond both personally and musically. Their program begins with Beethoven's last violin sonata, followed by Ravel's, featuring a jazzy "Blues" movement. After works by the Boulanger sisters—Nadia's song "Soleils Couchants" and Lili's Nocturne and Cortège—they perform Bartók's first sonata, with its dissonances mirroring occasional family life tensions.
