Alice Sara Ott / Piano Recital

Wed, Mar 12, 2025, 19:30
Laeiszhalle, Großer Saal (Hamburg)
Alice Sara Ott (Piano)
She draws, she writes, she explains and, of course, she plays the piano. Alice Sara Ott is a pianist of our time. Bringing the music of the past, which she loves so much, into the present is an important concern for her. And the audience thanks her for it – with fantastic streaming figures and enthusiastic comments. She is characterised by an elegant virtuosity and an openness that defies the rigid conventions of the classical music business: »Music really is the only place where we can meet. No matter what religion, what cultural background you have, what political party you vote for.« The Munich-born pianist with Japanese roots believes that any form of marginalisation is contrary to the spirit of music, and in this way creates new connections in her concerts – between people, but also between the works. Thus Beethoven’s famous »Moonlight Sonata« meets John Field, the almost forgotten »inventor« of the nocturne.

Chan & Ott

Sat, Mar 29, 2025, 20:00
Elim Chan (Conductor), Alice Sara Ott (Piano), Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin
When she grew up, Alice Sara Ott wanted to be a »pianist or Chancellor Kohl«. She was just five at the time. We now of course know what came of it: she became one of the acclaimed pianists of our time. At one time a hyped young artist, she has become a stunning interpreter, and she’s now performing the new piano concerto by an American multi-talent: Bryce Dessner composes masterfully for stage, concert hall, and numerous film scores as well; at the same time, he’s the guitarist of the indie rock band The National. What an exciting duo.

Karina Canellakis & Alice Sara Ott

Thu, May 1, 2025, 20:00
Karina Canellakis (Conductor), Alice Sara Ott (Piano), Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks
Lumière et pesanteur, written by the Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho as a gift for the conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen, radiates a shimmering sonic texture that is captivating, and serves as a brief opening prelude. Maurice Ravel’s brilliant and jazzy Piano Concerto in G major, written between 1929 and 1931, is entrusted to the sensitive and assured hands of pianist Alice Sara Ott – its colorful, playful style providing an exciting contrast to the dark, incisive soundworld of Jean Sibelius. The American conductor Karina Canellakis has chosen to showcase this soundworld by performing the four-movement suite that portrays the adventures of the hero (and womanizer) Lemminkäinen, as found in the Finnish national epic Kalevala.
