They’re interested in extreme rhythms, but they’re also into lyrical exactitude, intensity, eruptive outbursts and harsh contrasts. The band Enemy takes the piano trio subgenre and really pushes it against the grain. If bands like Bad Plus or Phronesis are your thing, this evening is one not to be missed. The British Enemy pianist Kit Downes is no stranger to the Elbphilharmonie, having already given an acclaimed solo concert here on the organ. Musically speaking his oeuvre is extremely broad, having worked with electronic acts like Squarepusher and free spirits like Bill Frisell. Now he is joining forces with his colleagues, the Swede Petter Eldh on bass and fellow Brit James Maddren on drums. Their music is the creative antithesis of the otherwise rather romantically inclined piano trio. Enemy sees itself as an ensemble of percussive instruments: rhythmically accentuated, fast-paced, highly complex. And with an abundance of joy and passion for music!
