For our "Expedition TIRILI" we usually travel light and without an elaborate stage set to the daycare centres of Berlin and Brandenburg. Now the "Expedition TIRILI" is also making a stop in the rank foyer of the Deutsche Oper Berlin for a few play dates and invites you to experience the sounds on the sand-coloured carpet and on brightly coloured seat cushions. Children are a great audience: open, curious, enthusiastic. They miss neither curtain nor orchestra pit and have no fixed idea of how an audience should behave. They are born explorers. And two musicians accompany them on their musical-theatrical voyage of discovery. Together they ask themselves: How are sounds created? What is music made of? Who or what is this mysterious TIRILI? For "Expedition TIRILI" we worked together with children from the Kastanienallee day-care centre in cooperation with TUKI. In the run-up, we experimented with sounds and themes in the nursery. This process flowed into the development of the production.

Winter holidays music lab ‘Pzzktz’

This year's winter holiday music lab ‘Pzzktz’ is dedicated entirely to rhythm, and it does so in a variety of ways: in one lab, the whole body becomes an instrument; another lab introduces children to rhythm with language and the mouth; and in the third lab, the children explore our Tischlerei venue to see what can be done with rhythm. The labs will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day from 3 to 8 February. On 8 February at 4 p.m., the young rhythm researchers will present the results of their lab work at the Tischlerei. The following labs are available: If your child wants to register for this year's winter holiday music lab, please indicate two desired labs. Depending on availability, we will then form the groups and assign the participants to one of the selected labs. Lab 1: Let's groove – rhythm in motion In this workshop, our whole body becomes an instrument. We will clap, snap our fingers, stamp, hop, whistle and sing. You will get to know rhythm games and we will invent a few rhythms together. If you want to move and make music without having to pick up an instrument, this is the right place for you. The workshop is led by Myriam Brigmann. Workshop 2: Master of the Ceremony – Rap and Beatboxing In this workshop, you will learn how to beatbox and rap really well yourself. We have been on the road a lot in recent years with our art and now we want to show you what it takes to put on a great show on stage. Learn with us how to write interesting texts and perform complex beats using only your mouth. We will also make recordings and develop a performance for the final day. We look forward to seeing you! Family Concert

To this day, "Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks" is one of Richard Strauss' best-known works, not least because Strauss uses the boldness of his orchestral treatment to create a musical depiction of Eulenspiegel's pranks that is as drastic as it is memorable and does not even shy away from the - apparent - end of the prankster on the gallows. Lorenzo Viotti, who not only conducts Strauss' tone poem in this family concert but also explains it himself, returns to the Deutsche Oper Berlin with this Strauss programme, where he made his successful debut in 2023 with Mahler's First Symphony.

Pamina's love for the Prince is awakened when she hears the tales of Papageno, the bird catcher, with whom she then sings a love duet, Papageno standing in for Tamino. However, these two children of royal blood have a few obstacles to surmount before they can be united. Fortunately there's always music in the meantime: Tamino is given a magic flute that can tame wild animals, and Papageno has a musical instrument, a glockenspiel of magic chimes. This abbreviated version of Mozart's MAGIC FLUTE is intended not only for children but for all music and theatre lovers keen to spend an hour learning the sights and sounds of opera.

Children' s ballet – Peter Pan

For over a hundred years, Peter Pan, the boy who never grows up, has been one of the best-known characters in children's literature. Generations of children have spun out the adventures that Peter, his girlfriend Wendy, the pirate captain Hook and the fairy Tinkerbell experience in their imagination and dreamed of one day being able to roam the island of Neverland themselves. David Simic, the director and choreographer of the Kinder Ballett Kompanie, has also been fascinated by "Peter Pan" since he saw a ballet version of the story in his hometown of Belgrade as a child. Now he has developed a version for the main stage of the Deutsche Oper Berlin in which the children and young people themselves embody the heroes and villains of the fairytale adventure story. To the music of Edvard Grieg's "Peer Gynt" and Alexander Glasunov's "Raymonda", about 50 children and young people between the ages of 6 and 18 can be seen in a variety of roles in "Children Dance: Peter Pan". The costumes were designed by the internationally award-winning costume designer Angelina Atlagic, who has worked for the Staatsballett Berlin, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Compania Nacional de Danza in Madrid and the Greek National Theatre, among others.

Buddies on the Nightshift
