The Echo Klassik award-winning work »ÜberBach« is coming to the stage of the Elbphilharmonie. The continuation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s music into today’s world of sound fascinates, touches and inspires. The second soloist on stage alongside Sebastian Knauer is the Danish vibraphonist Morten Friis, who recently stormed the international charts with his hit »Cynical« as the founder of the band Safri Duo. The two soloists will be accompanied by the internationally acclaimed Vienna Chamber Orchestra. Also on the programme are the 5th Brandenburg Concerto BWV 1050 and the Piano Concerto BWV 1052, two original works by J.S. Bach, as well as excerpts from »Souvenir de Florence« by Peter Tchaikovsky, the »Holberg Suite« by Edvard Grieg and the Serenade op. 20 by Edward Elgar.

Wiener Sängerknaben

Wiener Sängerknaben, Manolo Cagnin (Conductor), Manolo Cagnin (Piano)
The Vienna Boys' Choir is the world's most famous boys' choir. Its roots trace back to 1498 (!), and among the choir's former members, you'll find classical giants like Joseph Haydn and Franz Schubert. Now, the choir is making a rare guest appearance at the Concert Hall, featuring Swedish music! The diverse programme showcases many facets of the choir, with much of the music specially arranged for this occasion. Before the interval, the classical dominates with music by Purcell, Mozart, Schubert, Verdi, and Orff, among others. And, of course, there's the quintessential Viennese with both Strauss waltzes and a polka. After the interval, there are also some Swedish elements, such as Gabriella's Song from the film As It Is in Heaven, and ABBA's Mamma Mia and Thank You for the Music. Perhaps not what one might expect from the Vienna Boys' Choir! This part also includes jazz, musicals, and even Italian crooning – Volare (actually titled Nel blu dipinto di blu) and O Sole Mio!

Wiener Sängerknaben, Jimmy Chiang (Conductor)
With their perfect, crystal-clear voices, the famous Vienna Boys Choir captivates audiences everywhere. In their Christmas concert »Every Year Again«, they present Advent and Christmas carols alongside classical works. The Vienna Boys Choir is the oldest boys’ choir in the world that does not belong to a church. They are an institution in the history of music and can look back on over 500 years of tradition. From the very beginning, they have been active as musical ambassadors: As early as the 15th century, the first choirboys accompanied Emperor Maximilian I to imperial diets.

Wiener Klassik

Lisa Wittig (Soprano), Nataliia Kukhar (Mezzo-Soprano), Mykhailo Kushlyk (Tenor), Baurzhan Anderzhanov (Bass), Philharmonischer Chor Essen, Essener Philharmoniker, Richard Egarr (Conductor)
Haydn's "Missa in angustiis," his only mass in a minor key, reflects the turbulent times of the Napoleonic Wars. Beethoven's Symphony No. 2, written as his deafness began, is surprisingly playful and full of contrast. Mozart's Symphony No. 1, composed at the age of eight, reveals a composer brimming with energy, imagination, and original ideas.

Wiener Salon - Kammermusik von Alma Mahler und Zeitgenossinnen

Elvira Bill (Mezzo-Soprano), Konstantin Ingenpaß (Bariton), Daniel Bell (Violin), Judith Ermert (Cello), Tatjana Dravenau (Piano), Anja Renczikowski (Moderator)
A Viennese music salon at the turn of the 20th century, perhaps Berta Zuckerkandl's, where Alma and Gustav Mahler first met. Some of Alma Mahler's 16 surviving songs will be heard. Mathilde Kralik von Meyrswalden, 20 years older, studied with Mahler. Evelyn Faltis, sharing Alma's Wagner enthusiasm, arrived in Vienna in 1905. Her sensual music is comparable to Richard Strauss's.
