Music has the amazing property that it can take us to any corner of the world, without leaving home. FeNek, who has already made thousands of journeys, knows this very well, although he rarely leaves his beloved Philharmonic. Whenever he dreams of a distant voyage, he invites exceptional artists to the stage, who travel to distant countries with every work they perform. And this time will be no different – we will hear Balkan, klezmer, Polish and Spanish rhythms, but... Read full text

The spring wind rustles in the trees, sings merrily in birdsong, chases the clouds away, turns somersaults, fills the fields and meadows with sound... This concert will be filled with music conjured up by wind instruments: the singing flute, the mysterious clarinet, the lyrical oboe, the playful bassoon, the gentle horn and energetic percussion. We’ll blow notes, dance in rhythms, visit the court of a Chinese empress and listen to raindrops falling. Who is curious to know whether the sounds of the air are light as a feather or heavy as a storm? Who wants to find out how to conjure music from the air and look for spring in it?

The sound of jingle bells can be heard in the distance, the air is filled with the scents of Christmas trees and aromatic bakes, the world is beginning to sparkle with colours and lights, and the houses, gardens, forests and fields are wrapped in a white feather quilt. And at the Philharmonic? FeNek knows that the magic of Christmas lies also in the unique music, which evokes memories of meeting loved ones, singing carols together and having fun in the snow or on the ice. Christmas is about images and sometimes whole films of recorded stories. If you want to feel that special atmosphere, come to the concert at the Warsaw Philharmonic. When magical snow starts to fall in the Concert Hall, the stage and the auditorium will fill with the sounds of carols, winter songs and tunes from those favourite Christmas films we love watching each year. To this concert, bring a hand-made bauble. Bring to the concert… a hand-made bauble

Have you ever walked around the Old Town in Warsaw and along the cobbled streets from the Castle Square to the New Town Square? If so, you must know that you’ve walked in the footsteps of the old times, when Warsaw became the capital of Poland and King Sigismund III took up residence in the Royal Castle. To find out more about those times, all you have to do is come to the Philharmonic. We’ll tell you what secrets are hidden in the streets of the Old Town, what the fashionable clothes and games used to be. We’ll show you how music was played in the royal chambers and present beautiful instruments characteristic of those times. The concert will include instrumental pieces, court and feast songs, and will be accompanied by historical dance.

Let’s play ‘hot or cold’. Do you know a little boy who’s just getting to know people and the world and to learn about everything? Cold? He has a completely hard body but a soft heart? Still cold? I’ll also say that the little boy has a tendency to err from the truth, and with every lie he tells, his nose gets longer and longer. Warmer? So I’d add that this little boy has good intentions, but succumbs to various temptations – just like all of us! And his Daddy carved him out of an old piece of wood that talked. Hot! Yes, the protagonist of our musical play will be the world’s most famous marionette. Come and meet Pinocchio! Parts: Karolina Iwańska-Paśnicka Wróżka, pani Rosaura Małgorzata Godlewska Lisica, Knocica Marek Murawa Policjant, Dyrektor Teatru, Papuga, Nauczyciel, Dyrektor Cyrku Grzegorz Hardej Pinokio

PERSONAL NOTE

Sun, Jan 19, 2025, 16:00
Students of the Barenboim-Said Akademie (Ensemble)
Personal Note is a new concert series curated by students of the Barenboim-Said Akademie. The series was conceived by the participants of the Akademie’s Concert Curation course, a program designed to empower young musicians to think beyond performance. In today’s rapidly evolving cultural landscape, classical music faces the challenge of remaining relevant while maintaining its traditions. Through this course, led by Prof. Yael Kareth, students have the opportunity to delve into the essence of the concert experience, exploring its social, sensory, and cultural dimensions. By asking questions such as, “What story does this music tell?” and “Who is it for?”, the course encourages students to reimagine the concert model and craft events that are meaningful, engaging, and accessible. The culmination of their work is Personal Note, a series of intimate performances that reflect their creativity and intellectual exploration, as well as their unique musicianship. Concert II: Dialogue The word dialogue carries a world of meaning, especially when it comes to music. It may refer to conversation, reflection, or imitation, in music as well as in life. In the second concert of the series, students will explore various musical expressions of dialogue through performance of well-known chamber music pieces, which they will personally introduce as well. They will demonstrate musical conversation between different players or instruments, explore the correspondence between two (or more) musical lines or voices within a composition, reveal the intergenerational dialogue between student and teacher or between composers of different epochs, highlight cultural exploration and exchange through composition, and even expose the inner—almost secret—dialogue a musician has with themself. Dialogue is also a key word in the microcosmos of the Barenboim-Said Akademie, where the ability to truly listen across different backgrounds, viewpoints, and perspectives is crucial. In a very wholesome way, dialogue plays exactly the same vital role in music-making.

Kołysz się i tocz! Do you know such a dance? Its funny name sounds like an instruction, and the whole world knows it – it’s rock and roll. This lively dance was born in North America. During our concert, we’ll talk about the energetic music and about the great friendship and passion that unites two friends. They danced rock and roll from an early age, devoting all their free time to practising. Each tournament brought them closer to realising their dream of making their favourite dance their main occupation and the purpose of their life. Are you curious how this story ended?

On the road concert with the Hänneschen

Sat, Nov 23, 2024, 11:00
Sextett für Flöte, Oboe und Streicher des Gürzenich-Orchesters, Puppenspiel des Hänneschen Theaters, Mareike Marx (Text), Philipp Matthias Kaufmann (Arrangement)
Who doesn't know Cologne's Hänneschen Theater? Like the Gürzenich Orchestra, it's a quintessentially Cologne institution. And this year, both are celebrating anniversaries: 222 years of the Hänneschen Theater and 25 years of Ohrenauf! To mark the occasion, the two greats of the cultural landscape are teaming up for a joint production. But not on the big stage, but down-to-earth in the community center around the corner. With a small ensemble of musicians and puppeteers, we are bringing a musical, Cologne version of the well-known Sleeping Beauty story directly to Cologne's neighborhoods and to the people. Our motto: Leave the concert hall and enter the city. For families with children aged 6 and over. 10€ adults / 7€ children
