Listen, join in, have fun, discover music – the radio3 Children’s Concerts of the DSO are the perfect introduction to the wonderful world of classical music. In six concerts per season, children of primary school age can get to know the orchestra’s enchanting sound machine in all its facets. Together with the DSO, moderator Christian Schruff takes the six to twelve-year-old concertgoers on entertaining and interactive voyages of discovery, tells exciting stories, and presents great music. Already before the concert, at the Open House in the foyer, the young music fans can get to know various instruments together with members of the orchestra, have their faces painted, do crafts, sing, and much more.

Have you ever walked around the Old Town in Warsaw and along the cobbled streets from the Castle Square to the New Town Square? If so, you must know that you’ve walked in the footsteps of the old times, when Warsaw became the capital of Poland and King Sigismund III took up residence in the Royal Castle. To find out more about those times, all you have to do is come to the Philharmonic. We’ll tell you what secrets are hidden in the streets of the Old Town, what the fashionable clothes and games used to be. We’ll show you how music was played in the royal chambers and present beautiful instruments characteristic of those times. The concert will include instrumental pieces, court and feast songs, and will be accompanied by historical dance.

And this time will be no different – we will hear Balkan, klezmer, Polish and Spanish rhythms, but not only that... We’ll be whisked away by clarinets, pianos and percussion instruments. Does the cello have so many fans because it is most similar to the human voice? At least that's what cellists like to say about their instrument, which became the new star in string heaven during the Romantic period. Since the Baroque era, the violin had been the undisputed queen, with the cello relegated to the continuo with the double bass. Antonín Dvořák also had to make friends with the cello, which was sometimes derided as a “sorrow box” due to its pronounced melancholic qualities. As a guest in the USA, he finally wrote a great dance-like concerto for the instrument, which became a favorite piece from his pen around the world, rich in melody and virtuoso. The family concert title “Hello Cello!” is a greeting with which we and our audience aged 8 and over welcome artist in residence Sheku Kanneh-Mason, his wonderful instrument and the Dvořák concert. And an exclamation of surprised admiration: Hello - what this cello can do!

But when he opened them, they all disappeared and... all around him it was just like before. Our concert is an invitation to close our eyes together, and then we’ll soar together into the fairytale world of imagination. There music weaves intriguing tales and is always keen to imitate the characters and sounds of its surroundings. Would you like to hear what it’ll present to us this time?

The Philharmonic is always filled with different and colourful sounds, especially during carnival season! That’s why FeNek makes sure to celebrate in a special way and invite wonderful guests to the ball. This time he’ll be visited by such distinguished guests as Pocahontas, Alladin, the Lion King and even Elsa. Together, we’ll discover the tunes that entertained or encouraged them during their adventures on the big screen. Perhaps those sounds will enable us to fly on a magic carpet to Africa, see the colours borne by wind or find out what can be heard at the bottom of the sea? Impossible? Anything can happen in the world of music – all you have to do is prick up your ears and be curious about new adventures.
