Grieg compiled the most beautiful pieces of his original incidental music for Henrik Ibsen’s drama »Peer Gynt« into two orchestral suites, dispensing with the spoken dialogue and vocals. Morning Mood, the first movement of Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, is so frequently used in advertising, film and television that it is one of the best-known classical melodies. »In the Hall of the Mountain King« and »Solvejg’s Song« are also often quoted and are among Grieg’s most famous compositions.

In customary tradition, the Prague Symphony Orchestra and the Coro di Praga give a guest performance at the Laeiszhalle to round off the year. On the programme are two of the most monumental works in music history: Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Carl Orff’s choral masterpiece »Carmina Burana«, which brought the composer fame overnight in 1937.

Trilling and chirping birds in spring, buzzing and humming bees just before a furious thunderstorm in summer, grape harvest in autumn, biting cold and falling snowflakes in winter – no artistic work describes the four seasons better than Antonio Vivaldi’s cycle of the same name. The Tschechische Kammerphilharmonie Prag will be performing it as well as Handel’s »Water Music« and Haydn’s »Farewell Symphony« in the Grand Hall of the Laeiszhalle.

As Christmas approaches, the well-known ensemble Czech Chamber Philharmonia of Prague presents an out-of-the-ordinary musical event: the festive »Christmas Gala of Favourite Classics«, featuring a selection of great orchestral works by world-famous composers. The orchestra joins forces with four top Prague opera singers to put on a concert that combines radiant elegance with a reflective Yuletide mood.
