Many a leading artist’s career might have turned out differently if it had not been for the Young Classical Artists Trust. “Without YCAT I’d probably still be wondering whether or not I should be a singer,” says Ian Bostridge. Since 1984, the British organization has supported rising young artists embarking on an international career by providing opportunities to perform as well as assistance with management and marketing. For its 40th anniversary, current and former participants gather at the Pierre Boulez Saal to present a program of large-scale chamber works by Franz Schubert and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor as well as a new composition by current YCAT Composer Fellow James B. On the Transmigration of Souls

Vladimir Jurowski (Conductor), Anna Devin (Soprano), Hanna Hipp (Mezzo-Soprano), Rupert Charlesworth (Tenor), Trevor Eliot Bowes (Bass), London Philharmonic Choir, Tiffin Youth Choir
Vladimir Jurowski conducts two towering choral works that face each other across the centuries. For LPO Conductor Emeritus Vladimir Jurowski, every concert is an opportunity to explore, and with our ‘Moments Remembered’ theme as inspiration, he’s conceived an intensely personal programme. Two towering choral works face each other across the centuries, and at first glance, John Adams’s tribute to the dead of 9/11 could hardly seem more different from Haydn’s joyous Mass setting. But even here, the drums of conflict rumble ominously in the distance. In between comes a moment of solemn reflection from György Kurtág: music that invites us to search our own memories, and find our own meanings.LPO 2024/25 Writer-in-Residence Jeremy Eichler gives a talk on this evening’s programme. After the concert, Jeremy will also be signing copies of his award-winning book, Time’s Echo, at the merchandise stand in the Royal Festival Hall foyer.
