Blue House Jazz – Camille Thurman & Darrell Green Quartet

Fri, Mar 21, 2025, 19:30
Camille Thurman (Vocals), Camille Thurman (Saxophon), Darrell Green Quartet
Camille Thurman is a name to remember – if you haven’t already. She is widely acclaimed and richly awarded, with critics bending over backwards to capture the impact of her performances. As Downbeat Magazine wrote: “Imagine if Sarah Vaughan played saxophone like Dexter Gordon. That’s about the effect you get when vocalist and tenor saxophonist Camille Thurman takes the stage.”Born in New York in 1986, Camille Thurman is a saxophonist, vocalist, and composer. She made history as the first woman in 30 years to tour, record, and perform internationally as a full-time member of the world-renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, which she was part of from 2018 to 2020.Equally impressive as a singer and saxophonist, Thurman’s artistry combines tradition and innovation in a captivating way. She made her recording debut in 2014 and has since released three additional albums under her own name, most recently Confluence, Vol. 1: Alhambra in 2024. She has also contributed to numerous other albums. Now making her debut at Konserthuset Stockholm, Thurman performs with the Darrell Green Quartet. Her latest album is a collaboration with Green and his quartet. Darrell Green, also from New York, is a highly sought-after drummer and bandleader who has toured with legends such as Pharoah Sanders and Dr. Lonnie Smith.

Elbphilharmonie, Kleiner Saal (Hamburg)
Camille Thomas (Cello), Boris Kusnezow (Piano), Indira Koch (Violin), Friedemann Eichhorn (Violin), Alexia Eichhorn (Viola), Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt (Cello)
The Gropius Quartett invites you to a chamber music festival with the world-famous cellist Camille Thomas and Boris Kuznetsov. At the beginning, the Gropius Quartet will perform a quartet by Joseph Haydn, which is not nicknamed »the joke« for nothing. Before the interval, Camille Thomas then plays works by composing cellists, a firework display of romantic melodies and virtuoso music that culminates in Boccherini’s quintet. In this quintet, the artists transport the audience to Madrid at night, while the concert concludes with Dvořák’s Piano Quintet, one of the great masterpieces of chamber music literature.

Mahler Festival: Mahler's moving Das Lied von der Erde

Wed, May 14, 2025, 13:00
Feride Büyükdenktas (Mezzo-Soprano), Stuart Jackson (Tenor), Julius Drake (Piano)
The Recital Hall is dedicated to Mahler's most beautiful songs during the Mahler Festival. Perhaps the most important song accompanist of the moment, pianist Julius Drake, flanks his favourite vocalists. Today, these are Feride Büyükdenktaş and Stuart Jackson. Together they sing the moving Das Lied von der Erde, in Mahler's own version for two vocalists and piano.Six narrative movements make up Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde. He based the songs on texts about nature, death and life. He used ancient Chinese texts in German translation. A 'drinking song on the earthly vale of tears' is the start of a stirring series of reflections on farewell and new beginnings. Das Lied von der Erde was written for two voices. Today you will hear Feride Büyükdenktaş, a Turkish mezzo-soprano who has already shone on the major opera stages of Vienna, Stuttgard and Istanbul. British tenor Stuart Jackson gets jubilant reviews at home, and is now more and more often singing across the globe.

Lied von der Erde

Thu, Jun 13, 2024, 19:00
Clay Hilley (Tenor), Samuel Hasselhorn (Bariton), Alain Altinoglu (Conductor)
