Each year, Jan Lundgren presents three concerts under the banner Kind of Jazz – unique meetings with invited artists and ensembles. Kind of Jazz 2025 marks the series’ seventh season. This year’s Kind of Jazz series concludes with a duo performance. Till Brönner is Germany’s leading jazz trumpeter, often mentioned in the same breath as Chet Baker. “I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time,” says Jan Lundgren. “This will be our first concert together. He’s extremely busy, so it has taken some time to make this happen. Among Till Brönner’s idols are Chet Baker and Miles Davis. The title’s ‘vs’, versus, isn’t meant as a competition, but perhaps it suggests a playful shadowboxing. I look forward to a delightful meeting with lots of spontaneous twists. It’ll be melodic, with a blend of original compositions, jazz classics, and some pop elements.”Till Brönner’s dozen solo albums, most recorded in Los Angeles, have been hugely successful, with his debut album in 1993 winning an award. He has performed with virtually all the international greats and was invited in 2016 by President Barack Obama to the White House for International Jazz Day. This will be the first time the renowned German trumpeter performs at Konserthuset Stockholm.

Each year, Jan Lundgren presents three concerts under the banner Kind of Jazz – unique meetings with invited artists and ensembles. Kind of Jazz 2025 marks the series’ seventh season.“This is a tribute to Bill Evans, who was one of my most important influences when I started playing jazz,” says Jan Lundgren. “I was captivated by his sound: his way of playing and voicing chords, the immense richness of his harmonies. It made him truly unique, and I consider him one of the most important jazz musicians of all time. We’ll play some original Bill Evans music, like Waltz for Debby and Very Early, as well as music he’s associated with, such as Song from MASH. We’re paying homage to both the artist and the composer. To recreate his style and not just play the songs requires a deep understanding of the artist – without losing oneself.”Just as Bill Evans had his trio, Jan Lundgren has put together an exceptionally skilled trio here. German drummer Wolfgang Haffner, one of the foremost in the world, has previously worked with Jan Lundgren (as well as with Nils Landgren, for instance). The renowned Swedish bassist Anders Jormin has also taken a leading role in international music and is now a professor at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg.

Jazz & Lyrics: Synaesthesia and jazz

Sat, Feb 15, 2025, 20:00
Hearing colours, tasting sounds: This evening focuses on artists whose sensory perceptions function differently to those of most people and who were able to draw enormous creative potential from this. The musicians around Rüdiger Ruppert and Sebastian Krol certainly don't just look at Johann Wolfgang Goethe or Stevie Wonder. **** “Since jazz is one of the most intriguing languages out there, it’s natural to want to combine it with texts and poetry.” In its new series of jazz events in the Tischlerei the Big Band of the Deutsche Oper Berlin presents six themed concerts featuring smaller formations of the Big Band and guests. The concerts focus on a particular subject or composer, amalgamating music and poetry. Texts, biographical information, poetry and background information on the evening’s unifying theme combine to produce a unique experience for the audience.

Chamber Music I: The young gaze

Wed, Oct 23, 2024, 20:00
The orchestra's academy students are young musicians who are starting their careers at our orchestra. Enthusiasm and the search for one's own path are characteristics that young people in particular bring with them. This freshness can also be found in the programme for the first chamber concert of the season: works by young composers show that the first steps in a musical career can be full of surprises. But we also show that a "young" or new perspective is not only found in young minds.

JazzKLUB / “Laborka”, or the showpiece of jazz Krakow

Tue, Jun 3, 2025, 19:30
Janusz Grzywacz (Keyboards), Janusz Grzywacz (Vocoder), Marek Stryszowski (Alto saxophone), Marek Stryszowski (Soprano saxophone), Marek Stryszowski (EWI), Marek Stryszowski (Vocals), Krzysztof Ścierański (Bass guitar), Marcin Ścierański (Drums), Marek Raduli (Guitar)
This band has more than half a century of history if we don't count the break of a dozen years arranged by Janusz Grzywacz and Marek Stryszowski at the turn of the century. They debuted in 1971 at Gitariada '71, a festival they organised in Nowa Huta, Krakow, which introduced fusion and jazz-rock elements to the Polish scene. Over the years, they have developed their style, which has been compared to that of the American group Weather Report, consisting, especially in the early period, of experimenting with instrumentation and combining different types of sound. Laborka ("Lab"), as they are colloquially called, is undoubtedly a showpiece of jazz Krakow and, simultaneously, a top spot on the list of Polish bands of all time. Maria Wilczek-Krupa Concert duration: approximately 90 minutes

The five musicians, who are at home both in the traditional music of their respective homelands and in jazz, unite the most diverse musical influences on this evening to create a sound that spans the globe.
