They are located somewhere between Adenauer and riots, between staid bourgeoisie and bikini, between sauerbraten and a yearning for Italy: The hits of the 60s. Combined with short stories by Elke Heidenreich, the musicians invite you to a nostalgic evening in the Tischlerei. **** “Since jazz is one of the most intriguing languages out there, it’s natural to want to combine it with texts and poetry.” In its new series of jazz events in the Tischlerei the Big Band of the Deutsche Oper Berlin presents six themed concerts featuring smaller formations of the Big Band and guests. The concerts focus on a particular subject or composer, amalgamating music and poetry. Texts, biographical information, poetry and background information on the evening’s unifying theme combine to produce a unique experience for the audience.

Pia Marei Hauser (Künstlerische Leitung)
This workshop encourages exploring new sounds, expands instrumental boundaries, sparks compositional and improvisational creativity, and promotes freedom in playing—solo and in groups! It's open to anyone 15+ with basic instrument proficiency and an openness to new musical experiences. Led by flutist, music educator, and dramaturge Pia Marei Hauser, participants take first steps away from sheet music and into improvisation: How can I musically express myself? What other sounds can enrich the music? How does group playing work? These questions will be explored during the workshop, with a final presentation where participants will perform their own music.
