Liedakademie Öffentliche Meisterklasse II mit Thomas Hampson

In a public masterclass, baritone Thomas Hampson works with scholarship holders of the Heidelberg Spring Song Academy on musicality, technique, and expression in art song. The audience has a unique opportunity to experience the next generation of song artists and witness Thomas Hampson, one of the greatest song interpreters of our time, at work. Gringolts Quartet. Lily Francis Alle Mozart-Streichquintette II

In April 1788, Mozart advertised three new quintets in the Wiener Zeitung. Among them was the wind serenade KV 388, adapted for string quintet, alongside KV 515 and KV 516. This work, KV 388, is not a light-hearted piece, but a serious "Nachtmusique". The G minor quintet also carries intense emotions and tension. However, it concludes with a lively final rondo. A pre-concert talk will be given by Marcus Imbsweiler.

Igor Levit. Iván Fischer. Budapest Festival Orchestra Alle Prokofjew-Klavierkonzerte II

The second day of the Prokofiev cycle features his third piano concerto, known for its popularity. Its folk-song-like and lyrical character is highlighted by the slightly subdued wildness and softened harmony. The program also includes the Overture on Hebrew Themes, with its melancholic klezmer tone, and an orchestral suite from the ballet "Cinderella". A pre-concert talk with Anselm Cybinski and Igor Levit will take place at 7 pm in the Heidelberg Congress Center.

Musik der Hoch- und Spätromantik, dazu ein Werk der Gegenwart. Christian Thielemann spannt in seinem ersten Konzert als neuer Generalmusikdirektor den Bogen von Mendelssohn über Schönberg bis zu dem jungen kanadischen Komponisten Samy Moussa, dessen farbenreiches Orchesterstück Elysium unter seiner Leitung 2021 in der Sagrada Familia in Barcelona zur Uraufführung gebracht worden ist. Igor Levit ist der Solist von Mendelssohns 1837 komponiertem 2. Klavierkonzert mit seinen ernsten wie lyrischen Tönen, während Schönbergs zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts nach dem Drama von Maurice Maeterlinck entstandene, opulent besetzte Tondichtung Pelleas und Melisande seine Verwurzelung in der spätromantischen Klang- und Ausdruckswelt demonstriert.

For more than six decades, the chamber concerts by musicians from the Staatskapelle have been a constant feature of the Staatsoper programme. This season, ensembles have come together to select music from different periods, styles and cultures under the theme of ‘playing together’. On eleven dates in the Apollosaal, which with its special atmosphere is an ideal venue for chamber music and communicative interaction between players and listeners, works from the Baroque to the present day will be performed in constellations that are both exciting and harmonious, in which tangible contrasts play just as important a role as a common resonance and the balancing of opposites.
