Legendary jazz vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater comes to the Pierre Boulez Saal for the first time to present a musical journey across the globe. Joined by pianist and musical director Carmen Staaf, the two-time Grammy Award winner performs a selection of standards ranging from Bésame mucho and Afro Blue to Chick Corea and Kurt Weill, to Charles Trenet’s hits La Mer and Que reste-t-il de nos amours (known in English as I Wish You Love).

Born and raised in London, she studied both classical music and traditional African music. Sona Jobarteh shows us how well tradition and innovation can complement one another.

Strong and yet vulnerable – on the international music scene, Souad Massi's voice is unmistakable. The Algerian began her career as a member of a heavy metal band, later establishing herself as a singer-songwriter in her exile home of Paris. In her songs, Souad Massis mixes elements of French chanson and Algerian music with folk rock and country music. Her music addresses existential themes such as freedom, justice and female self-determination. In her programme Sequana, she sings about the fragility of nature.

Singer, composer, and visual artist – the versatile Cécile McLorin Salvant has carved out her own niche that expands jazz beyond its conventional boundaries: in addition to jazz, she touches upon vaudeville, blues, folk, and baroque music.It's an original and irresistible mix where the common denominator is the theatrical and powerful storytelling through text and music. She has been awarded numerous prizes and won several Grammy Awards. Her latest album was Mélusine (2023), where the Florida-born artist predominantly sings in French. Another example of her creativity is Ogresse – a 90-minute song cycle with her own lyrics, which she first performed in 2018 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.Cécile McLorin Salvant has appeared at Konserthuset Stockholm several times since her debut in 2017. This band has more than half a century of history if we don't count the break of a dozen years arranged by Janusz Grzywacz and Marek Stryszowski at the turn of the century. They debuted in 1971 at Gitariada '71, a festival they organised in Nowa Huta, Krakow, which introduced fusion and jazz-rock elements to the Polish scene. Over the years, they have developed their style, which has been compared to that of the American group Weather Report, consisting, especially in the early period, of experimenting with instrumentation and combining different types of sound. Laborka ("Lab"), as they are colloquially called, is undoubtedly a showpiece of jazz Krakow and, simultaneously, a top spot on the list of Polish bands of all time. For his first Pierre Boulez Saal appearance as a leader, Canadian guitarist and oud player Gordon Grdina has assembled an international group of artists from diverse musical traditions who perform together for the first time. RU’YA (“foresight” or “vision” in Arabic), featuring Belgian-Tunisian vocalist Ghalia Benali, blends sound, poetry, and the human voice in an experimental musical setting that bridges continents, cultures, and genres. Inspired by poems from Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Tunisia, Egypt, and Belgium, RU’YA creates a musical world of unity, joy, and shared humanity.
