The system goes beyond regular sound amplification and can bring both realistic and abstract sounds to life. In 4DSOUND, virtual sound objects seem to be really present inside of the space. The audience experiences more than just sound; people often indicate that they can actually 'see' the sounds. Especially with closed eyes, they can visualize the sounds thanks to the impressive properties of the sound system.With Seeing with your Ears, this phenomenon is taken one step further by working with visually impaired artists. They use 4DSOUND as an instrument to guide the audience through a sensory journey in space and time. Narrator Leroy de Böck takes you out of the here and now, to a variety of places and times. Listen attentively with your eyes closed and the images will come naturally. We happily invite people with a visual impairment, and sighted people are also welcome. The goal is to exchange experiences by listening to an entire world of spatial sound together.4DSOUND is an Amsterdam-based studio focusing on spatial sound as a creative medium. A warm invitation to, in his own words, 'listen deeply as they welcome our bodies, our ancestors, our traumas, our pain, our desires, our visions and our dreams'.American audiovisual artist James Allister Sprang is a true pioneer in America in the field of 4DSound technology. He makes intriguing audiovisual installations and compositions, in which means such as photography, cyanotype and spatial audio technology move in harmony. His work is often inspired by Caribbean heritage and immigration, and explores themes of diaspora, displacement and survival. This haunting soundtrack meditates on how the resonance of space and the rhythmic pulse of music intertwine, tethering the ephemeral to the profound. In this piece, the echo chamber transforms from a mere loop of repetition into a dynamic environment where soundwaves bounce and return, unveiling the contours of an emotional landscape concealed in the void. Echo(location) Chamber was composed and developed in January 2024, during their two week residency at MONOM.This listening session is co-presented by FIBER Festival.With their music and art, Greek producer and artist Evita Manji explores the environments where beauty and pain meet. Manji's work addresses universal themes such as free will and nature, but always brings feelings of hope and comfort into the equation. Their first album, Spandrel? tells a personal story about the grief they felt after the loss of their partner, the late producer SOPHIE. In addition to their music, Manji is also heavily involved in activism; with their label myxoxym, which raises money for the protection of nature in Greece.FIBER Festival is an Amsterdam-based festival and platform for contemporary digital culture, audiovisual art and progressive music culture. Aural Spaces – Interactive Session: Bring Your Own Sounds

In this interactive session of 1,5 hours, you will be introduced to spatial listening, spatial composition and learn about, and most importantly listen to, artistic practices and sonic examples within the 4DSOUND system. Beforehand, you will capture sounds from your own surroundings using audio recording on your smartphone (or any other audio recording device), which you will share with our team before the event. We will turn them into a variety of listening experiences, in combination with the sound of other participants.Together, we bring in urban and natural sounds from outside The Concertgebouw, to the Recital Hall to be experienced as a crowd-sourced listening piece. In-between the listening moments, we will have a conversation about the experiences of spatial listening, learn from artist-composers Robin Koek and Mint Park and get to know the basics of the 4DSOUND system. Join us for a morning of collective listening and recomposing our city's sounds.After buying a ticket you will receive an email with instructions and a link to upload your recorded sounds to a folder shared with the 4DSOUND team. What kind of music does the guitarist Marc Ribot, who himself is such a versatile instrumentalist? His own stylistic spectrum – as immortalised on countless albums – ranges from jazz and rock to noise and punk. At the Listening Session, the Elbphilharmonie’s Kaistudio 1 is turned into a living room – a cosy setting in which Marc Ribot, as part of the festival dedicated to him, presents his favourite records that have influenced him and that continue to inspire him. Elbphilharmonie PLUS is a programme that opens up different ways of looking at the music performed at the Elbphilharmonie – either to supplement a concert, or as an experience in its own right. Interdisciplinary encounters and exhibitions form part of the Elbphilharmonie+ programme, as do concert talks and films shown in museums, libraries, cinemas and community centres.

Cæcilie Trier's roots lie in the bustling Copenhagen music scene where Iceage, Puce Mary and Andreas Führer also come from. Trier is a much sought-after session musician all over the world – she has worked with artists as diverse as Dean Blunt, Trentemøller and Marching Church. CTM is equally at home in the worlds of classical, film music, experimental pop and electronica. At times her music sounds intimate and familiar, but the unexpected twist and glitchy disruption are always lurking, which can suddenly change the level of tension. The combination of resonant melodies, pop sensibility and bleed-edge improvisation creates a poetic and open atmosphere.Trier's career is brimming with praise, especially for her album Suite For A Young Girl, which was nominated for the prestigious Nordic Music Prize in 2017. Followed by the critically acclaimed album Red dragon (Posh Isolation, 2018), the album Celeste by the duo Trier/Rosenbaum (Posh Isolation, 2021), the album Babygirl (Posh Isolation, 2022). With her album For You And I (2019), she seeks out the raw edges, transmitting her signature sound as a queer, Black and British artist, with the catchy pop melody often forming the springboard for bold experimentation.Successor Reflection is a more streamlined and minimalist project that shows the introspective and intimate side of club music. Building Something Beautiful For Me (2022), was James's tribute to the iconic New York minimal composer Julius Eastman, a musical reinterpretation and response to his legacy. In 2023, she released the LP Gentle Confrontation, which explores both her past and present. James says it’s the record she would have liked to have made as a teenager – the album’s musical tendencies reflecting that period in her life. In between albums, James delves into countless impulsive projects – such as her unruly alter ego Whatever The Weather – in which the sheer joy of her creative process is palpable.During Aural Spaces, James will apply her boundless creativity and expressive, almost diary-like approach within the 4DS Soundsystem, which will of course result in a singular musical experience.
