Amsterdam Sinfonietta invites singer and pianist Karsu for the annual, successful New Year's tour. With her unique mix of pop, jazz and Turkish music, she has performed in more than twenty countries worldwide, performed three times in Carnegie Hall in New York and played at North Sea Jazz. She received an Edison in 2016 for her album Colors. Her participation in the TV program Best Singers in 2021 has kept millions of viewers glued to the TV. Her rendition of Hijo de la Luna and Je suis malade hit number 1 on several charts. Thanks to her popularity in Turkey, all here concerts there are sold out within a blink of an eye. Concertgebouw Orchestra: Polyphonic Amsterdam

Amsterdam has been harbouring outside influences for 750 years. Amsterdam is a city of many voices, a polyphony that is echoed in its music. In Theo Verbey’s Notturno, a world of music resonates in an Amsterdam stairwell. Tania Kross sings fifty-year-old songs in which the more distressing sides of Amsterdam are not glossed over, while the rich culture of the Antilles resounds in a suite from Randal Corsen’s Katibu di shon, the first ever opera in Papiamentu.Greek-born composer Calliope Tsoupaki has been living and working in Amsterdam for over 35 years and was Composer Laureate of the Netherlands from 2018 to 2021. The memory of her arrival in Amsterdam inspired her newly commissioned work, Another Day, written in response to a poignant, image-rich poem by Anneke Brassinga. Conductor Bas Wiegers concludes this programme of many voices with de exciting music of Silvestre Revualtas evoking the pre-colonial Mexican landscapes and cultures.This concert will be enriched by surtitles and images by Frouke ten Velden.

Amsterdam is a city of many voices, a polyphony that is echoed in its music. Bas Wiegers leads the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Choir and soloists in a unique programme of many voices. Tania Kross sings songs from several cultures, and evokes the rich culture of the Antilles in arias from Randal Corsen’s Katibu di shon, the first opera in Papiamentu. In addition, the orchestra performs a work by the Surinamese composer Eddy Vervuurt (1928-1988) and three Dutch composers.In Theo Verbey’s Notturno, the whole world resonates in an Amsterdam appartment. In Louis Andriessen’s opera De stad van Dis (The City of Dis), we board the Ship of Fools and enter a hellish city, one of water and fire. Andriessen was an inspiring composition teacher, drawing young composers from all over the world to Keizersgracht in Amsterdam for lessons. Some stayed on to further enrich musical life here, such as the former Composer Laureate of the Netherlands Calliope Tsoupaki, a citizen of Amsterdam since 1988. Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra / Ton Koopman

Wait a moment, these are the first sounds of the »Christmas oratorio« which starts this concert in the middle of summer! Yes and no: Johann Sebastian Bach often ›recycled‹ his own music and used pieces he considered particularly successful, repeatedly in very different works. Ton Koopman, expert in historical Bach performance practice, has selected three secular cantatas by the Baroque master, which celebrate name-days and birthdays of the Saxon elector prince family and include so many well-known arias and chants. On these occasions, Bach did not set to music any sacred, but secular texts. Characters from classical mythology appear here, convey good wishes to the gods and praise them. For the composer, these compositions which were performed in the open air in beer gardens in summer and in coffee houses in the winter are part of his Leipzig engagements. Two of the cantatas even bear the subheading »Dramma per Musica« – festive miniature operas with virtuoso arias, studded with outstanding soloists. Ton Koopman, who is giving his Elbphilharmonie debut with this concert, is, with his Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir, one of the world’s best Bach interpreters, awarded with numerous prizes. The conductor, organist and harpsichordist fully dedicated himself to the composer: »To me, Bach is the most brilliant composer in the history of music! What affects me with Bach is the tremendous balance between sense and sensibility – his music goes straight to the heart. A day without Bach is inconceivable to me!«

25 years “Philharmonic Salon”

For 25 years, curator and cellist Götz Teutsch has been bringing music and literature together in the Philharmonic Salon. A wide variety of cultural worlds have been experienced. The series has presented the Mendelssohn family and their guests, traced the travels of the legendary Casanova, and brought Gustav Mahler's Vienna to life. This anniversary concert, featuring actor Heikko Deutschmann and soprano Anna Prohaska with members of the Berliner Philharmoniker, is all about art and kitsch – two worlds that are particularly captivating when they overlap.

125 years Wiener Symphoniker

120 years of Hamburger Orchestergemeinschaft

As Hamburg’s oldest amateur symphony orchestra, the Hamburger Orchestergemeinschaft from 1904 organises at least two concerts a year. Time and again, the orchestra gives young, very talented conductors and soloists the opportunity to gain experience with public performances in large concert halls. For the anniversary concert, the orchestra under the direction of Wolf Tobias M. Müller showcases its musical breadth with a colourful bouquet of overtures and arias from Mozart to Puccini as well as Schubert’s »Unfinished« Symphony. To celebrate the anniversiary, a new percussion concerto by Fredrik Schwenk will be premiered.
