O/Modernt New Generation Orchestra
Konzerthaus Berlin, Großer Saal (Berlin)
There was cheering, wild clapping and stamping of feet: when you read reports today about the concerts that Antonio Vivaldi gave in his home city of Venice, you feel like you’ve been transported to a rock concert. The bustling ensemble O/Modernt under the direction of Hugo Ticciati shows just how much »rock« there is in baroque by fusing Vivaldi’s works with the music of Metallica, Muse and Dream Theatre. The use of the legendary Hammond organ conjures up the 60s and 70s rock sound à la Procul Harum and The Doors, while bassoonist Bram van Saambeek not only shows off his virtuosity with Vivaldi’s bassoon concertos, but also with the famous bass guitar solo from Metallica’s »Pulling Teeth« – with a thoroughly authentic sound thanks to amplification. Look forward to a rousing, multi-faceted evening and the unique fusion of fine baroque figuration, grooving riffs, rich string sounds and tremulous bass!
