"Wien um 1900"

Date & Time
Sat, Jun 21, 2025, 20:00
This season's cross-disciplinary theme evening, "Vienna around 1900," showcases one of the world's most exciting cultural capitals. Through music, theatre, ballet, and drama, we experience facets of this city. At the turn of the century, Vienna was the cradle of numerous artistic, sociological, and political movements, where great artists lived, loved, suffered, and worked. The collaboration of music, spoken word, and dance from five departments of the Theater and Philharmonie Essen and Museum Folkwang makes "Vienna around 1900" a festive evening. We experience the city as a sensual utopia, historical inspiration, and lifestyle. On International Music Day, the evening concludes with music by Gustav Mahler, Franz Lehár, and Richard Strauss performed by the Essen Philharmonic under Wolfram-Maria Märtig.

Pavel Kolesnikov (Piano), Kölner Kammerorchester (Ensemble), Christoph Poppen (Conductor)
Born in Siberia in 1989, Pavel Kolesnikov showed great talent in both violin and piano, despite not coming from a musical family. After winning the Honens International Piano Competition in 2012, he focused on piano. While celebrated in Asia and his adopted England, he remains relatively unknown in mainland Europe. He's also passionate about vintage perfumes, finding parallels between their balanced composition and music, especially Beethoven.

On Tour: Konzerthaus Wien

Thu, Oct 24, 2024, 19:30
Jakub Hrůša (Conductor), Daniil Trifonov (Piano)
»Wherever you go, go with all your heart.« True to this saying, we are travelling on winding paths again – after all, we are Bavaria’s cultural ambassadors in the world. It gives us great pleasure to be touring across Europe to distribute musical calling cards from our wide-ranging repertoire to audiences elsewhere – who may well be curious. Jakub Hrůša once said that he loves it when people »really come with an open heart and are open to experiencing something completely new – and then relate it to what they already know«. At the request of the exceptionally gifted pianist Daniil Trifonov, this time the tour takes us to numerous places in Central Europe, to concert halls that we haven't performed in for a long time. In our suitcases we bring those exciting works that we have presented to our esteemed Bamberg audience for a long time – and although we are now travelling around for a while, we will of course always return to our beloved »home port« on the Regnitz later on.
