Free Lunchtime Concert: National Flute Competition

For many years now, Lunchtime Concerts have been held in the Main Hall and the Recital Hall. The concerts range from public rehearsals by the Concertgebouworkest, to chamber music performances by young up-and-coming artists.For Lunchtime Concerts you will require a free ticket, which you can buy online. Doors to the concert hall open about 30 minutes before the Lunchtime Concert starts.We offer a broad range of music: the majority of concerts include classical music, but you can sometimes hear more modern repertoire. The concert programme is announced one week in advance on our website. The concerts last thirty minutes and are free of charge. Visitors are advised that these concerts are suitable for children from six years old.

Steinway Piano Competition

Finding and promoting exceptional talent is Steinway & Sons’ passion. The Steinway Piano Competition, offers children and young people under the age of 17 a platform that enjoys an international reputation and opens many doors for young pianists since 1937. A record number of 220 young talents has been reached this year – they have all registered for the Steinway Piano Playing Competition and will present their programmes in a pre-selection at Steinway locations throughout Germany. After viewing the video recordings made there, a jury will decide which participants will be invited to the final at the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. There, the most promising young pianists will perform in the Great Hall in front of the jury, who will then award the prizes, which will be presented on stage at the grand finale.

The winner of the MAHLER COMPETITION 2023 is Giuseppe Mengoli! He will conduct the final concert. The winner of the prize for the best conducting of the contemporary piece is Kevin Fitzgerald. He will conduct "Con moto" by Bernd Richard Deutsch.
