UNDINE

Undine, a female water creature, can only gain an immortal soul by marrying an earthly man. She marries Knight Hugo, but warns him, if her love is betrayed, she must kill him and return to the water. Lortzing's opera, though he had to leave Leipzig, returns with poetry and power.
