The most beautiful requiem of the 20th century

Sun, Oct 27, 2024, 12:00
Polish Radio Choir - Lusławice, Maria Piotrowska-Bogalecka (Conductor), Daniel Strządała (Organ), Adam Krzeszowiec (Cello), Matylda Sielska (Mezzo-Soprano), Maciej Cetnarski (Bariton), Adam Suprynowicz (Compere)
Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem is said to be one of the most beautiful and moving sacred pieces of the 20th century. Composed in 1947, the work was born out of fascination with traditional choral music, but it shows no dearth of a “symphonic” scope, simultaneously being deeply reflective in its character. Elements of the Gregorian chant interwoven with modern harmonisation and subtle orchestration create a uniquely contemplative atmosphere and encourage one to slow down in the October rush of preparations for All Souls’ Day. Romantic programme by the Korean National Symphony Orchestra

Tue, Oct 1, 2024, 20:15
The Korean National Symphony Orchestra, David Reiland (Conductor), Sumi Jo (Soprano), Jaemin Han (Cello)
It will be the first time the Korean National Symphony Orchestra will perform in Amsterdam. It will offer the Dutch audience the opportunity to come together and to celebrate National Foundation Day. In South-Korea this day is celebrated with huge fireworks displays throughout the country. In Seoul, it takes place in Yeouido Han River Park and is very popular. The orchestra will bring world famous soloists from South-Korea.Bellini's aria Casta diva is one of the three well known, and virtuoso arias that star soprano Sumi Jo will perform. The long flowing lines of the melody require incredible control and expressive nuance. Tonight's instrumental repertoire also includes brilliant melodies, as in the Overture to Mozart's Zauberflöte and in Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations for cello and orchestra, performed by the eighteen-year-old cello virtuoso Jaemin Han. Schumann's Fourth Symphony has a dramatic structure, in which melody lines keep returning, but played by different instruments. Slowly, a story unfolds. The opening movement sets a dramatic tone with its dark and brooding themes, while the following movements explore a range of emotions, from the lyrical Romanza to the spirited and energetic Scherzo. Conductor David Reiland is an expert in this field, as he serves as the Schumann Guest of the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra.

Sol per te / The most beautiful operas by Georg Friedrich Händel

Fri, Oct 18, 2024, 19:30
Krzysztof Garstka (Conductor), Krzysztof Garstka (Harpsichord), Olga Pasiecznik (Soprano), Anna Radziejewska (Mezzo-Soprano), Zespół Instrumentów Dawnych Polskiej Opery Królewskiej Capella Regia Polona
“Sol per te” is the most famous love duet between Flavia and Lepido from Georg Friedrich Händel's opera Silla – and just one of the many famous duets by the master of the genre – which will be performed this evening by outstanding female soloists: Olga Pasiecznik and Anna Radziejewska with Early Instrument Ensemble of the Polish Royal Opera Capella Regia Polona. In the emotional Io t'abbraccio from the opera Rodelinda, the title character confesses her feelings for Bertarid, as do Cleopatra and Caesar in Caro! Bella! from the opera Giulio Cesare, while in the dramatic duet Per le porte dell tormento, Rosmene and Tirinto confront turbulent passions in the opera Imeneo. This last one Händel wrote humorously, in the style of a musical comedy, in which he treated the dramatic dilemmas between heart and duty with a wink. This, in turn, influenced the music, balancing pathos and playfulness, which is rare in Händel's operas. The programme for the evening will be complemented by outstanding instrumental compositions by the German-British Baroque master. Alexandra KozowiczConcert duration: approximately 80 minutes
