Through the ages we have been fascinated by the horrid, ghastly and grotesque.Orvar Säfström and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra wander into the darkest, winding corridors of madness where the dead have come to life and the servants of evil hold court. The Horror is a film score concert out of the ordinary. Alexander Hanson leads the forces and we also hear Swedish soprano Sabina Zweiacker.The Horror is a concert by Overlord Productions, and not suitable for younger children.

Finnish-Swedish Moses Pergament (1893–1977) was a prominent and well-known figure in the music scene, active both as a composer and as a music critic for Svenska Dagbladet, but sadly now largely forgotten. He was born into an Orthodox Jewish family in Helsinki but moved to Stockholm in his twenties.The Jewish Song was composed towards the end of the Second World War, while the Holocaust was still ongoing and becoming increasingly revealed. The texts are taken from two of Ragnar Josephson's poetry collections from the early 1900s: Kedjan (”The Chain”) and Jewish Poems. There, Pergament found ”the feelings of a true Jew. Not a contemptible nationalism, but a liberating sense of solidarity, even in the greatest suffering”. The work has been called a choral symphony, but in his biography of Pergament (2016), Carl-Gunnar Åhlén argues that symphonic song cycle would be a better description.This is masterful, overwhelming, and emotionally impactful music that over the years has sadly been neglected. The only recording available is from 1974 – with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, soloists, and choir conducted by James DePreist. It was also the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra that premiered The Jewish Song in its entirety in 1947, after various planned performances had been delayed for years, probably due to political anxiety – even after the defeat of Nazi Germany.Here, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir are led by Tobias Ringborg, and as soloists, we hear singers Agneta Eichenholz and the Norwegian Kjetil Støa.

Have you always dreamt of singing in some of the greatest hits of classical music? This is your chance! With the help of our luxurious ”backing band”, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, it’s time for you to participate and sing along in well-known music pieces. We dare to promise you a powerful experience.The sing-along is led by Emilie Power, organist and choir leader of the Katarina parish. Lyrics will be handed out ahead of the concert.Strollers and prams cannot be brought into Konserthuset Stockholm and are best left at home. A designated stroller tent is set up outside the entrance, where prams can be left, subject to space availability.

The sound of jingle bells can be heard in the distance, the air is filled with the scents of Christmas trees and aromatic bakes, the world is beginning to sparkle with colours and lights, and the houses, gardens, forests and fields are wrapped in a white feather quilt. And at the Philharmonic? FeNek knows that the magic of Christmas lies also in the unique music, which evokes memories of meeting loved ones, singing carols together and having fun in the snow or on the ice. Christmas is about images and sometimes whole films of recorded stories. If you want to feel that special atmosphere, come to the concert at the Warsaw Philharmonic. When magical snow starts to fall in the Concert Hall, the stage and the auditorium will fill with the sounds of carols, winter songs and tunes from those favourite Christmas films we love watching each year. Let’s play ‘hot or cold’. Do you know a little boy who’s just getting to know people and the world and to learn about everything? Cold? He has a completely hard body but a soft heart? Still cold? I’ll also say that the little boy has a tendency to err from the truth, and with every lie he tells, his nose gets longer and longer. Warmer? So I’d add that this little boy has good intentions, but succumbs to various temptations – just like all of us! And his Daddy carved him out of an old piece of wood that talked. Hot! Yes, the protagonist of our musical play will be the world’s most famous marionette. Come and meet Pinocchio! The Bonds Between Music, Homeland and Diaspora

What influences your own music-making? Which cultural roots play a role and how can you express yourself in music – especially when you live far away in the diaspora? These are questions about which the singer Ramadu and dancer, DJ and author Jumoke Adeyanju exchange views in order to jam together afterwards. Ramadu is the stage name of Dumisani Moyo. Born and raised in Zimbabwe, he lived in Vienna for a long time and now promotes the musical culture of his homeland. This season, he is developing one of the Elbphilharmonie join-in ensembles with the Chor zur Welt, a programme about the varied a cappella music in Southern Africa. He will be part of this panel discussion a few days before the concerts on 30 June. With Jumoke Adeyanju as his discussion partner, he faces a multi-disciplinary artist, who also studied African-/Asian Studies at the Humboldt University of Berlin and completed a Masters in African Politics in London. Musa Okwonga, who likewise works in London as an author and musician as well as a radio presenter, moderates.
