The Gropius Quartett invites you to a chamber music festival with the world-famous cellist Camille Thomas and Boris Kuznetsov. At the beginning, the Gropius Quartet will perform a quartet by Joseph Haydn, which is not nicknamed »the joke« for nothing. Before the interval, Camille Thomas then plays works by composing cellists, a firework display of romantic melodies and virtuoso music that culminates in Boccherini’s quintet. In this quintet, the artists transport the audience to Madrid at night, while the concert concludes with Dvořák’s Piano Quintet, one of the great masterpieces of chamber music literature.
Mozart premiered his first minor-key piano concerto in Vienna on February 11, 1785. This concerto in D minor marks a departure from his usual pleasing style. Shostakovich's Tenth Symphony's scherzo reflects Stalin's terrifying image, while the Allegretto and finale assert the composer's presence through his musical initials (D-Es-C-H).
In the second part of the chamber music festival by and with the musicians of the Gropius Quartet and the string trio Klangrausch, the latter will perform chamber music highlights together with illustrious guests. From Dvořák’s famous Terzetto to Schubert’s Erlkönig with vocal star Günther Groissböck, Gustav Mahler’s marvellous piano quartet and Arensky’s quartet with two cellos with Camille Thomas. An evening that is certainly unique in this mix.
