Geboren in Reykjavík und ausgebildet an der Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, wurde Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir bei den Icelandic Music Awards 2021 als »Sängerin des Jahres« ausgezeichnet. Ihr Konzertprogramm kreist um das Thema Migration, mit Liedern voller Sehnsucht und Schrecken.Das von Nico Muhly für die Sopranistin Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir komponierte »Sá ég svani« erzählt vom Fernweh nach Island beim Anblick eines fliegenden weißen Schwans. In »White Eggs in the Bush«, das auf einem Jägergedicht in Yoruba, einer nigerianisch-kongolesischen Sprache, basiert, warnen zwei Kuckucke vom Ausbruch des Krieges, werden von den Menschen aber nicht gehört. Von Kunal Lahiry am Klavier begleitet, singt Guðmundsdóttir des Weiteren u. a. Lieder der afroamerikanischen Komponistin, Pianistin und Aktivistin Margaret Bonds und von Errollyn Wallen die – in Belize geboren – als Kind mit ihrer Familie nach Großbritannien auswanderte. »Rising Stars« ist ein Projekt der European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO). Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir wurde nominiert von Harpa Reykjavík und Philharmonie Luxembourg.​
