Grigory Sokolov

Sun, Nov 10, 2024, 19:00
Grigory Sokolov (Piano)
Due to illness, Grigory Sokolov has, on this occasion, been forced to reschedule the date of his annual concert. He was originally set to perform on 27 October, but the concert has been postponed by two weeks, to this evening. The annual concerts with pianist Grigory Sokolov celebrate their 20th anniversary this year! With few exceptions, since 2004, he has graced the main stage at Konserthuset with a concert every autumn. And he always surprises the audience with his extraordinary technical brilliance and exceptional ability to elevate the music to unprecedented heights. The latest Sokolov concert revolved around two giants of classical music: Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Afterwards, he treated the ecstatic audience to six (!) encores – several pieces by Chopin and Jean-Philippe Rameau, as well as virtuosic music by Rachmaninov and Scriabin. He often finalises his repertoire late, and at last we know what he will play at this year’s concert: music by the English composer William Byrd (a contemporary of Shakespeare), as well as works by Chopin and Schumann. We can be sure that he will once again astonish us all with his rare gift for uncovering new secrets within the music.

Grigory Sokolov

Fri, May 8, 2026, 19:00
Grigory Sokolov (Piano)
Grigory Sokolov is a legend. Describing him as one of the most significant pianists of the present day is not an assertion, but a widely confirmed fact. Critics of high standing admit that they lack the right words to describe his art. But perhaps one doesn't even need words, but rather be convinced by him directly. "Art is a parallel universe to reality," he says, and proves it in a unique way in each of his concerts. And as always, he keeps it exciting: he announces his programs at short notice. Thus, the anticipation of a reliably unforgettable concert experience can blend with the expectation of the unexpected when the pianist unfolds his magic touch with music from the Baroque, Viennese Classical, or Romantic periods. By invitation of the Dresden Philharmonic in cooperation with DK Deutsche Klassik.

Grigory Sokolov (Piano)
Grigory Sokolov, a truly exceptional pianist of our time, is known for his perfectionism and uncompromising approach. His concerts, performed under dimmed lights with impeccable sound dramaturgy, captivate audiences. Sokolov, an exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist, shuns media attention and limits his performances. Tickets are highly sought after even before programs are announced, as his repertoire choices are driven solely by his desire to play. His mesmerizing performances showcase a simple setup: one man, one grand piano. With seemingly effortless execution, he plays even the most technically demanding passages with ease. Experiencing Sokolov live is a must.

Grigory Sokolov (Piano)
With the stage lights dimmed, pianist Grigory Sokolov manages at every appearance at the Laeiszhalle to fascinate the audience with his unpretentious virtuosity. He never fails to show his unerring sense for the quiet and tender notes in the music. It doesn’t matter so much which works he chooses to play: another Solokov tradition is that the programme is just as unknown at the time of writing as the number of encores he will give.
