If you’re aged 11–14 and Grade 4+ standard on your orchestral instrument, come and join London Philharmonic Orchestra musicians at our free LPO Junior Artists: Overture Day on Sunday 2 March 2025 at Saint Gabriel’s College in London.LPO Junior Artists: Overture days are free, fun orchestral skills days where participants play alongside LPO musicians, get tips on musicianship and find out what happens behind the scenes of a professional orchestra. In this Overture day we will play music that will take us to magical, mythical lands, including extracts from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, Grieg’s ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King,’ and music from Dreamworks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon.Please note that applications for our next Overture days in Eastbourne (Wednesday 16 April) and Worthing (Thursday 17 April) will open on Monday 3 February 2025. Young musicians will only be invited to attend one of these three Overture days.The day will take place at Saint Gabriel’s College, Langton Road, London, SW9 6UL from 10.30am – 4.30pm. At 4pm there will be a performance showcasing the pieces we have explored, which will be open to friends and family.Applications are now open!Complete the application form.For this Overture day we will prioritise applicants from backgrounds which are underrepresented in UK professional orchestras. LPO Showcase: Crisis Creates

Members of Crisis UK – all adults who have experienced homelessness – perform original music they have devised with LPO musicians and a workshop leader during a week-long creative project.Crisis Creates aims to improve participants’ wellbeing and confidence through self-expression, collaboration and developing creative skills. The project offers a channel for participants to express themselves and to combat the isolation that comes hand-in-hand with precarious living situations. Using the music of the Orchestra as their starting point, the group creates new and powerful work which they bring to the Royal Festival Hall stage.This event is free to attend, with no booking required.

LPO Showcase: Foyle Future Firsts and the Royal Academy of Music

The LPO’s Foyle Future Firsts Development Programme bridges the transition between education and the professional platform for 16 early-career orchestral musicians each year.Join the current cohort of Future Firsts as they join forces with students from the Royal Academy of Music and members of the LPO for a vibrant performance conducted by the LPO’s Principal Conductor, Edward Gardner. The programme is inspired by memory, and features Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, each movement of which is dedicated to the memory of a friend of the composer who died in the First World War, along with other related repertoire.This event takes place in the Royal Festival Hall auditorium and is free to attend, with no booking required.
