Symphonischer Chor Hamburg / Symphoniker Hamburg / Matthias Janz

Sat, Sep 21, 2024, 12:00
Elbphilharmonie, Großer Saal (Hamburg)
Symphoniker Hamburg, Symphonischer Chor Hamburg, Kinderchor der Schule Turmweg (Choir), Annija Adamsone (Soprano), Joël Vuik (Countertenor), Martin Berner (Bariton), Matthias Janz (Conductor)
Bam! – »Oooooo Fortuuuna!« – Boom! That’s how the »Carmina Burana« begins. These are the »Songs from Beuern«, song texts from a medieval manuscript that was discovered in 1803 in the Benediktbeuern monastery. They contain cheerful, humorous, but also coarse texts: Monks take out good German citizens in a game of dice, there is drinking, feasting, banter and ... making love. Strong stuff, then. But the aforementioned Fortuna – fate – played these very texts into Carl Orff’s hands in 1934 when he discovered an edition of them by chance in a second-hand bookshop – and was immediately electrified. Orff was inspired by the medieval aura of the »Carmina« and found ways to evoke the feeling of the Middle Ages. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

Kammerphilharmonie Hamburg / Göktuğ Çelik / Johannes Braun

Mon, Aug 18, 2025, 19:30
Elbphilharmonie, Kleiner Saal (Hamburg)
Kammerphilharmonie Hamburg, Göktuğ Çelik (Kamancheh), Johannes Braun (Director)
This concert evening spans an arc from instrumental attractions to the musical manifestation of affection. In his »Serenata notturna«, for example, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart surprises with the use of timpani in contrast to a solo string quartet and the string orchestra. A real highlight with which Mozart jokingly delighted aristocratic society during the exuberant Salzburg carnival of 1767.

Monteverdi-Chor Hamburg

Sat, Apr 13, 2024, 20:00
Laeiszhalle, Großer Saal (Hamburg)
Monteverdi-Chor Hamburg, Katharina Ruckgaber (Soprano), Virgil Hartinger (Tenor), Gerrit Zitterbart (Hammerklavier), Antonius Adamske (Conductor)
A special song recital with the Monteverdi Choir Hamburg, the young star soprano Katharina Ruckgaber and the Salzburg tenor Virgil Hartinger: In Franz Schubert’s incredibly large oeuvre, the choral work is still one of the unpolished jewels of the concert repertoire. The audience can expect heart-rending love songs and contemplations of nature full of longing as well as devotional sacred music. The programme is complemented by humorous piano songs by Joseph Haydn about everyday things, such as unwanted chatter at a wine evening and harmony in marriage.
