Two legendary worlds collide: the creativity of a long-time Kraftwerk band member and a milestone in cinema history. It is no exaggeration to use the adjective »sensational« to describe what has been created in recent years in the Hamburg studio of musician Karl Bartos, who played a key role in shaping Kraftwerk’s electropop style from 1974 to 1990. It brings the silent film classic »The Cabinet of Dr Caligari« into our time through sophisticated sound design and creates a total work of art that immediately casts a spell over you. The fascinating interplay of fantasy and touching chills is given something intoxicating and beguilingly beautiful by Barto’s sound art. Karl Bartos has been fascinated by »The Cabinet of Dr Caligari« for almost twenty years and has given this silent film classic a fitting artistic guise. He has not only created a completely new, consistent soundscape to accompany the movie, but also his own music. He uses the timeless sound of the symphony orchestra, albeit synthesised and electronically modulated. This spectacular project combines the film screening of the first psycho-thriller with sounds and music created live on stage by Karl Bartos and his colleague Mathias Black.

The exceptional artist Freddie Mercury died far too early at the age of 45. He celebrated mega successes with his band Queen. Findling and his first-class live band present the world hits of Queen. He embodies Freddie Mercury in a breathtaking and energetic way like no other. He has the voice, the look and the moves. And yet these are church songs as they are sung in the services of the Black Churches in the USA and the Caribbean. For the »Night of the 5 Tenors«, now in its 15th year, they join forces to present a programme of the most popular arias from the operatic repertoire, including: »Rigoletto«, »Turandot« and »Carmen«. They are accompanied by the Bulgarian Plovdiv Symphonic Orchestra. Sought-after soprano Andrea Hörkens supplies a congenial commentary to guide us through the evening.

He received his last Oscar in February 2016 for Tarantino’s »The Hateful 8«. Morricone made himself immortal almost 50 years ago with his music for »The Song of Death«. His compositions for the Italo-Western classic »Two Glorious Scoundrels«, Roland Joffé’s drama »Mission« and Giuseppe Tornatore’s film »Cinema Paradiso« became particularly well known. His fans can experience Morricone’s unforgettable works live in selected cities. Star guest Marc Breitfelder is one of the best harmonica players in the world. The large ensemble of soloists, orchestra and choir of the Milano Festival Opera will also be on stage to bring Morricone’s captivating music to life. The technically sophisticated screen animation with the original film scenes intensifies the gripping atmosphere and creates the famous goosebump effect that nobody can resist.

The Shaolin monks from China are coming to the Laeiszhalle Hamburg. They present their impressive kung fu skills and the millennia-old tradition of their martial art. The show offers fascinating body art and traditional weapon fighting, which is deeply rooted in Zen philosophy. Led by an old master, 18 masters and shamis can be experienced. The Shaolin monks are known worldwide for their physical prowess and dedication to Chinese culture. In a two-hour show, they demonstrate feats such as breaking stone slabs or piercing glass by controlling the body’s energy »Qi«.
