Julia Fischer & Jan Lisiecki

Thu, Nov 7, 2024, 20:00
Elbphilharmonie, Großer Saal (Hamburg)
Julia Fischer (Violin), Jan Lisiecki (Piano)
It is by no means a given that outstanding soloists are also brilliant chamber musicians. How do you find a common musical breath? How do you bring your sound ideas together and mould them into a musical thought? Not problems for Julia Fischer and Jan Lisiecki! When they appeared on stage as a duo for the first time at the Rheingau Music Festival in 2022, it was clear that they had found themselves a dream team. The same undisguised view of the works, the same joy of playing and enthusiasm for working together. Luckily for the audience, the pair will also be making a stop in Hamburg on their next tour together, enriching the ProArte programme with a fine evening of chamber music featuring sonatas by Mozart, Beethoven and Schumann.

Jan Lisiecki plays Beethoven

Sat, Apr 12, 2025, 19:30
Tarmo Peltokoski (Conductor), Jan Lisiecki (Piano)
There are few experiences in classical music more invigorating, or more stirring than Sibelius’s Second Symphony. Imagine a swelling river of sound; a musical voyage that begins amid the tranquillity of nature and ends in a surge of triumph. That’s Sibelius’s Second Symphony, and there are few experiences in classical music more invigorating, or more stirring. For the young Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski, Sibelius is a national hero. There’s another tale about memory to be told here, as Canadian pianist Jan Lisiecki takes centre stage to showcase the grandeur and glory of Beethoven’s mighty ‘Emperor’ Concerto – a work dedicated to the composer’s patron and friend, Archduke Rudolf. *Please note a change of programme from originally advertised

Jan Lisiecki / Academy of St Martin in the Fields / Tomo Keller

Tue, Jan 14, 2025, 20:00
Elbphilharmonie, Großer Saal (Hamburg)
Jan Lisiecki (Piano), Jan Lisiecki (Director), Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Tomo Keller (Director)
It is these marvelous projects that characterise the programme of the ProArte subscription »International Soloists«: Jan Lisiecki, who, together with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, would like to perform all five Beethoven piano concertos and the Triple Concerto on three evenings and will, of course, have the Elbphilharmonie at his disposal. The Beethoven programme kicks off with the contrasting Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 3 in C major and C minor, which the Canadian-Polish pianist already performed brilliantly alongside the Academy in 2018 when he spontaneously stepped in for Murray Perahia, who was ill. Deutsche Grammophon decided to turn the live recording into an album – and the rest is history. And with this season also part of ProArte history!

They are a well-rehearsed team: Jan Lisiecki and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields – a fresh approach to the music, pure joy in playing and the desire to make music together characterise orchestra and soloist alike. This was already evident in 2018, when Jan Lisiecki rescued a concert tour of the Academy and stood in for Murray Perahia, who was ill, with all five Beethoven concertos. The applause was magnificent and the album of the live recording was a huge success. The connection between the Canadian-Polish pianist and the traditional British ensemble has been a special one ever since. And the desire on both sides to bring Beethoven’s concertos to concert halls once again with the necessary preparation time and the corresponding anticipation will finally become a reality in January 2025. The complete Beethoven cycle can be experienced on three evenings with ProArte!

This season, Jan Lisiecki presents a special project: three concerts featuring all of Beethoven's piano concertos and the Triple Concerto. The series begins with the contrasting pair of Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 3 in C major and C minor. Lisiecki already shone with the Academy in 2018, stepping in for the ailing Murray Perahia. The result: a magnificent concert and some of the most exciting Beethoven albums of recent years.

Jan Lisiecki / Daniel Müller-Schott / Academy of St Martin in the Fields / Tomo Keller

Elbphilharmonie, Großer Saal (Hamburg)

Jan Lisiecki is (once again) going all out. This ProArte season, the likeable Canadian with the »distinctive individual style« (Der Spiegel) is performing all of Beethoven’s piano concertos – and as the icing on the cake, the not-so-frequently performed Triple Concerto, which marvellously combines fine chamber music interplay with large-scale symphonic fabric. He is joined by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, with whom he already performed all five concertos in 2018 – standing in for Murray Perahia. The Adademy’s concertmaster Tomo Keller will take on the solo part in the Triple Concerto, while Daniel Müller-Schott will provide dreamlike sounds in the lower registers on the cello. In addition to the Triple Concerto, the majestic Fifth Piano Concerto is also on the programme for this concert evening.
