Jan Lisiecki is (once again) going all out. This ProArte season, the likeable Canadian with the »distinctive individual style« (Der Spiegel) is performing all of Beethoven’s piano concertos – and as the icing on the cake, the not-so-frequently performed Triple Concerto, which marvellously combines fine chamber music interplay with large-scale symphonic fabric. Jan Lisiecki präsentiert in dieser Saison gemeinsam mit der Academy of St Martin in the Fields sämtliche Klavierkonzerte Beethovens – und als Sahnehäubchen auch noch das nicht allzu häufig aufgeführte Tripelkonzert. Jan Lisiecki geht (mal wieder) aufs Ganze. Am zweiten Abend des groß angelegten Beethoven-Projekts von Jan Lisiecki und der Academy of St Martin in the Fields stehen mit den Klavierkonzerten Nr. 2 und Nr. 4 zwei weitere Klassik-Highlights auf dem Programm.Sie sind ein eingespieltes Team: Jan Lisiecki und die Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Das war bereits 2018 zu spüren, als Lisiecki mit allen fünf Beethoven-Konzerten für den erkrankten Murray Perahia einsprang. Die Verbindung zwischen Pianist und Ensemble ist seitdem eine besondere. Und der Wunsch von beiden Seiten, Beethovens Konzerte ein weiteres Mal in die Konzertsäle zu bringen, wird im Januar 2025 endlich Realität. An drei Abenden können Sie erleben den kompletten Beethoven-Zyklus erleben!

This season, Jan Lisiecki presents a special project: three concerts featuring all of Beethoven's piano concertos and the Triple Concerto. The series begins with the contrasting pair of Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 3 in C major and C minor. Lisiecki already shone with the Academy in 2018, stepping in for the ailing Murray Perahia. The result: a magnificent concert and some of the most exciting Beethoven albums of recent years.

It is these marvelous projects that characterise the programme of the ProArte subscription »International Soloists«: Jan Lisiecki, who, together with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, would like to perform all five Beethoven piano concertos and the Triple Concerto on three evenings and will, of course, have the Elbphilharmonie at his disposal. The Beethoven programme kicks off with the contrasting Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 3 in C major and C minor, which the Canadian-Polish pianist already performed brilliantly alongside the Academy in 2018 when he spontaneously stepped in for Murray Perahia, who was ill. Deutsche Grammophon decided to turn the live recording into an album – and the rest is history. And with this season also part of ProArte history!

They are a well-rehearsed team: Jan Lisiecki and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields – a fresh approach to the music, pure joy in playing and the desire to make music together characterise orchestra and soloist alike. This was already evident in 2018, when Jan Lisiecki rescued a concert tour of the Academy and stood in for Murray Perahia, who was ill, with all five Beethoven concertos. The applause was magnificent and the album of the live recording was a huge success. The connection between the Canadian-Polish pianist and the traditional British ensemble has been a special one ever since. And the desire on both sides to bring Beethoven’s concertos to concert halls once again with the necessary preparation time and the corresponding anticipation will finally become a reality in January 2025. Dialog mit Beethoven - Manchmal lässt sich die "Qual der Wahl" ganz einfach umgehen. Wenn zum Beispiel Jan Lisiecki gefragt wird, welches Klavierkonzert von Beethoven er bevorzugt, lautet die Antwort: "Ich habe fünf Lieblingskonzerte!" Dass der kanadische Starpianist mit den polnischen Wurzeln zu den international herausragenden Beethoven-Interpreten gehören würde, war spätestens klar, nachdem er 2013 - knapp 18-jährig - kurzfristig für Martha Argerich einsprang, um unter Claudio Abbado Beethovens 4. Klavierkonzert aufzuführen. Eine weitere Schicksalsfügung, dass Lisiecki 2018 bei der geplanten Liveaufnahme mit der Academy of St Martin in the Fields Murray Perahia vertreten konnte - und als Solist wie auch gleichzeitig als Dirigent durch die einzigartige Chemie mit dem Ensemble ein frappierendes Erlebnis zauberte. Nicht nur das Publikum, auch die Presse überschlug sich angesichts der "funkelnden Aufführung, die erfrischend spontan wirkt - und doch gedanklich vollkommen durchgeformt ist." (Tagesspiegel) Für Lisiecki kommen in den fünf Klavierkonzerten "alle wichtigen, teils gegensätzlichen Facetten Beethovens zusammen". Daher gibt es beim Albert-Gastspiel nach Anna Clynes Beethoven-inspirierter Ouvertüre "Stride" zunächst Beethoven - und dann noch mehr Beethoven. Lisieckis Auswahl spannt dabei den Bogen von Beethovens erstem Auftritt im Burgtheater, bei dem er sich 1795 vermutlich mit dem mozartisch perlenden Klavierkonzert op. 19 dem Wiener Stadtpublikum vorstellte. Die öffentliche Premiere des Konzerts op. 58 markierte im Dezember 1808 den letzten Auftritt des Meisters als Konzertsolist. Schon die ersten Töne des Werks ließen dabei aufhorchen - weil sie so zart waren, und weil sie nicht aus dem Orchester, sondern aus dem Flügel schwebten, leise, beinahe improvisatorisch tastend. Jan Lisiecki and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields radiate pure joy of playing. This was already evident in 2018, when the young pianist saved a concert tour of the traditional British ensemble and stood in for Murray Perahia, who was ill, with all five Beethoven concertos - including at the Konzerthaus Berlin. The applause was enormous and the album with the live recording was a great success. Since then, this connection has been a very special one. Experience the Academy and the Canadian-Polish pianist once again with Beethoven: the fifth and final piano concerto and the triple concerto, in which concertmaster Tomo Keller and cello star Daniel Müller-Schott join Jan Lisiecki.
