Musik der Zeit – Musik und Verlangen

Sat, Nov 9, 2024, 20:00
Anna-Lena Elbert (Soprano), Holger Falk (Bariton), Christoph Sietzen (Drums), WDR Sinfonieorchester (Ensemble), Brad Lubman (Conductor), Michael Struck-Schloen (Presentation)
Johannes Maria Staud's drum concerto for Christoph Sietzen, portrait artist of the 2024/2025 season, captures the shimmer of reality. A highly virtuosic pleasure on sought-after and found instruments, from drums to flowerpots. The protagonists in Gordon Kampe's "Lyrical Symphony" are "delighted to devour": inhumanly heightened desire dominates the music. Nicolas A. Huber devotes himself to the perfection of the number 4.

A melodic voice singing longing notes about the beauty of Ireland or the pub classic that won’t let your legs stand still – this is Ireland as it lives and breathes! Irish music has a long history, although it has only enjoyed worldwide popularity in the last hundred years. Daniel Hope and his AIR Ensemble, consisting of internationally renowned musicians with whom he has already toured the world with »AIR – A Baroque Journey«, are now embarking on a journey into the rich musical world of Ireland and exploring the myths and legends of the island and its music. For Daniel Hope, this musical journey is closely linked to his family history: His great-grandfather Daniel McKenna set off from Ireland over 100 years ago to make his fortune in the world. For Hope, who still holds an Irish passport as well as a German one, this musical discovery is also a journey to himself.

Musik med Horn

Sun, Nov 17, 2024, 18:00
Grace Kyung Eun Lee (Violin), Marc Gruber (Horn), Maria Ollikainen (Piano)
Three times horn. In this program, hr solo hornist Marc Gruber presents a full-blown concerto by the versatile British composer Ethel Smyth as well as metamorphic horn music by the Danish symphonist Vagn Holmboe. And you will be able to experience him with Brahms – also in a trio, full of sound and soul. Composer, conductor, writer and a fellow campaigner for the suffragettes, Ethel Smyth's life was characterized by the struggle for artistic recognition. Her virtuoso double concerto shows great mastery, which Brahms also demonstrates in his trio. Surrounded by nature, in the summery Lichtenthal near Baden-Baden, he even composed one of his most important chamber music works ever, a jewel of the repertoire and a showpiece for every horn player.Concert duration: about 100 minutes – including break
