French impressionism and Italian tonal splendour
Date & Time
Sat, Oct 19, 2024, 19:00In his Nocturnes, Claude Debussy paints atmospherically dense moods with impressionistic colours. They depict the shades of a cloudy sky, a whirling nocturnal festival, and the seductive, deadly song of the legendary sirens. After the interval, you can discover Ferruccio Busoni’s powerful piano concerto. It not only builds a bridge from the Romantic period to the modern era, but also pushes the boundaries of the genre by adding a male choir to the performance forces. Under the direction of Sakari Oramo, Kirill Gerstein plays the taxing solo part.
