Film music – cinema for your ears

Date & Time
Sun, Jun 22, 2025, 15:00
Music really brings a film to life! Whether contemplative moments, fast-paced chases or sad farewells – the right music completes the scenes. Music is used as a means to drive the plot forward and steer it in a certain direction. What composition techniques are there? What happens when the same music accompanies different images? Together with the orchestra, presenter and music lover Malte Arkona explores selected soundtracks in a humorous and informative way.

»Music for 18 Musicians«

Tue, Jan 6, 2026, 19:00
Ensemble Modern (Ensemble)
Steve Reich's "Music for 18 Musicians" is a key work of Minimal Music. This kaleidoscopic cosmos of sound for strings, woodwinds, xylophones, pianos, and voices is presented by the all-star band of Ensemble Modern. More than 100,000 recordings of the first recording were sold in 1978. 20 years after the premiere in New York, the piece came to Europe, where Ensemble Modern studied it with the composer. A close relationship developed between Reich and the Ensemble, and they are still experts in his music today.
