Played twice, discussed in between with presenter Christian Jost '2 x hören' (Listen twice) helps to understand music better. In this edition, our special guest is Lera Auerbach, the composer, pianist and visual artist whom this season's ‘Creative Portrait’ is dedicated to.Commenting on her Violin Sonata No. 3 from 2005, which she will play on the piano with violinist Mihaela Martin this evening, the composer says that in this piece, in addition to the music itself, there are also " [...] reflections on the different faces of the time we are living in. Although this work's nature is powerful in its darkness, it made me very happy. Sometimes the pain needs to be addressed in order to be freed and released and perhaps this is why this sonata was a joy for me to compose."

Participants can choose from workshops focused on music and songwriting, movement and dance, creative writing and sound design using modular synthesizers. Parctipants more interested in being part of a large group can opt for the big rehearsals where the results from all workshop groups are put together. The result will be a collaborative performance created from nothing that is completely dedicated to ideas related to »the future«. The final performances form part of the Hamburg International Music Festival – featuring a full programme with the overarching theme of »Future«.
