The Herbert Pixner Project by South Tyrolean-born multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Herbert Pixner, together with his congenial stage partners Manuel Randi, Ysaline Lentze and Werner Unterlercher, has been one of the most successful acts in the »new and progressive folk music« genre for years. In 2024, the group will be joined by pianist Alex Trebo. The ensemble thus becomes a quintet! The Herbert Pixner Project has once again announced a number of new features for the 2024 tour programme. New album, new stage design and one or two musical surprises.

Kirill Petrenko, chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic since 2019/20, directs Mahler's 9th Symphony in Essen. Born in Omsk, Petrenko strives for a unique orchestral sound, evident in his interpretation of Mahler's final completed work, a magical piece bridging Romantic and modern eras.

This year's "her:voice" Composer Festival focuses on Alma Mahler, whose "Five Songs" will be performed in Jorma Panula's orchestral version. While Mahler's husband Gustav allegedly restricted her compositions, Charlotte Sohy published under the male pseudonym Charles. Sohy's late-Romantic symphony, begun during World War I, expresses a desire for peace. The program includes Kaija Saariaho's "Winter Sky" and Anna Clyne's "Color Field," inspired by a Rothko painting.

A musical salon in Vienna around 1900, maybe Berta Zuckerkandl's, where Alma and Gustav Mahler first met. Hear some of Alma Mahler's rare songs. Mathilde Kralik von Meyrswalden, 20 years her senior, also studied with Mahler. Evelyn Faltis, sharing Alma's Wagner enthusiasm, arrived in Vienna in 1905. The concert "Vienna 1901. A Zuckerkandl Salon" takes place May 10, 2025, at the Old Synagogue in Essen, as part of the "DOUBLE PORTRAITS. Alma Mahler - Works in the Mirror of Viennese Modernism" festival.
